Bow fronted tanks?

Ohhh Parker Very nice tank!! That's almost exactly what my tank looks like :) I really like your stand too!! COOL !!

Very nice tank. Mine looks a lot like that. Mine has a black background and a lot of live plants. Other than that they look the same. Are your plants fake?

Here is a pic of my tank that I took about a month ago..Since then I've added a real nice big piece of driftwood.

Thanks Elisabeth :)

David - Yes, my plants are fake...

If I could change one thing, I would change the substrate to sand for my cories. My husband is out of town for the week, maybe that would give me something to do  I like the wall of plants along the back - it gives the cories a place to rest and is a nice "hiding" place. The angels have been sleeping back there too.

Elisabeth - Your tank looks great  In addition to the substrate, I'm contemplating changing my background to plants or rocks or something so it doesn't look so plain.

Both of you have great looking tanks. Elisabeth how long did it take you to get yours looking like that? Mine is currently very sparsely planted, but I want it to be heavily planted in the near future.

I have a combination of real plants, silk plants and plastic plants.

I've had my tank up and running for about 3 months now. Those pics were taken about a month ago.

Plants are real expensive here in Sweden so I went on ebay and bought some plastic ones 5 for 9.99 US and then I bought 4 silk ones which were only .99 US cents each which I thought was a real bargain!!

Right now there's probably about 10-12 plants in my tank a whole variety of sizes. I think theres 3 live ones, 2-3 silk ones and the rest are plastic.

I don't have a digital camera right now but when I do I want to get some updated pics of my tank. Since those pics I've also added more gravel. I chose to use real fine fine gravel.

Thanks for your compliments!!

Yeah I think a really nice background with plants and such really adds a lot to the tank. It fills in the empty spots.

Sometimes I take my background off which also looks really nice. I just like to change things around sometimes...makes it more interesting :D

I have noticed the majority of the people who spoke negatively bout the bow fronts, were talking bout small tanks.

I beleive large bowfronts are stunning. I have heard horror stories about perfecto bow fronts bursting.

Also, have you guys seen the new oceanic bow front, The Metal Collection."

These things are beautiful with the combo of stand and canopy

When I think of bow fronts I think of Juwels.....ie vision 180 and 260 and trigon 190 and 350.(litres) I heard recently from a rep that they are bringing out a vision 450 which I think will be a stunning tank.Over 100 gallon and very pleasing to the eye!! :D

Don't get me wrong, I like the bow front a lot, but everyone was just pumping them up too much. They have their advantages and disadvantages. Mine is a 46 gallon glass bowfront. About 13.5" wide at the sides to about 17" in the middle.

David, the reason I don't have an algae eater is due to having a brakish tank with GSP in it. My puffers are pretty wimpy though, which I like. My sailfin mollies are even more aggressive than they are and my GSP won't even eat the feeder fish. That said, I may try out something that can survive in brackish and eat algae as I do not beleive my GSP will even care about them as they completly ignore everything else.

All in all, the bowfronts are very cool and catch the eye of new fishkeepers for sure, but for the price difference, you could probably get an eheim canister filter with a square tank.

You won't go wrong either way. They are both glass and hold water.

I Like BOw Fronts and Wave Fronts.

We Alternate Bow And Convex At Work For the Larger Fish.

The only Problem I find is they give me A headache and I get Dizzy when I have to catch a fish from 1 of those Tanks.

On the German Ebay I've see a photo of a Juwel Vision 450. According to the measurements it's the same length and height as a Rio 400 (5 feet - 150cm) rectangular tank, so the extra 50 litres must come from the bow front. This differs from the approach taken with their four foot (120cm) tanks, where the Vision 260 bow-front is like the Rio 300 rectangular with the front corners pushed back.

I originally thought I wanted a Rio 400, but I've seen the Rio 300 and a Vision 260 side-by-side at my LFS, the Rio looked intimidating and as though it would really dominate the room, the Vision looked a lot nicer. Even though it is only 40 litres less this only comes out of the width as you move away from the centre, your "screen size" is the same as the Rio 300.

I would now like a "Vision 330", i.e. a five foot tank with the same width and height as a Rio 400 but the front corners shaved off to give a less imposing appearance. I assume it is unlikely Juwel will bring out two five foot bow-fronted tanks though, so it looks like I'm out of luck.
