Bought tank set-up on sale

Even though you have removed the ugly black box, you should take it back. Insist that you don't want a tank that "wiggles" when you touch it. No matter how good a deal it was in the beginning it is not one! Please, if you have any doubts (and I do), empty it and take it back...

ALASKA

I empied all the water out..and it doesn't wiggle hardly at all compared to when it was filled..so I think it just needs some of those brace things. My boyfriend and I just went the hardware store and bought some plexi glass and some aquarium silicone and he is going to make the braces for it.

I probably would of returned it but my boyfriend thinks it'll be fine once the braces are in so I'm just gonna have to trust him lol. :dunno:

My 55 Gallon doesn't wiggle with the water in it or out. :/

It has a single center brace on top and 3 on bottom evenly spaced.

I personally would have returned it. I know both LFS I deal with here would have taken it back. It's not as much the bracing, yes it can be added, it is the fact that it is a new tank and if it does not include bracing it should not need it. For that reason I would have returned it.

Poor workmanship and design in my opinion and I would be worried about the rest of it.

Well...that changes everything. Now it's no longer a question of tank quality or return policies. It has become a guy thing

Lets hope his ego is sturdier than the tank  :fun:

Koda

I've seen 100 gallons without braces and they don't bow noticiably at all. I'd take it back. Neither of my 30's wiggle or bows and I've never seen an aquarium that has in any LFS.

Haha your right Koda!!

Well I found a website that figures out the correct glass thickness for the length/width/height of a tank and it said that with my measurments that the glass needs to be at leat 3.8mm thick and mine is 4.5mm so I think I'm gonna be good once the braces are in.

With the way he is using the silicone it looks like poop!! But noooo we have to do it his way :sly:

By the time this is over I'm gonna tell him how junky it looks and that we should of just taken it back and bought the more expensive brand.

Oh well

flattern it out with your finger, or use a coin to get a nice curve on it, scrape the 'waste' off with a flat blade (like a stanly knife blade)

Yeah I realize now that even though silicone is getting on the glass I can scrape it off later using a razor blade. Once the lid is on you wont even be able to see the braces anyways so it really doesn't matter if it isn't perfect.

I think my boyfriend is about to kill me with all the yapping I've been doing :*) :/ Oops

sakaspuds:

How much silicone am I supposed to use on the edges of the plexi-glass?

well you put some on the end to stick it to the glass, then run a bead of silicone down either edge, there is no set rule, but it should be roughly the curve of a finger tip or a 1 pence (english) coin will do it, but as you said, it isnt going to be seen, so its up to you really

I'm gonna try and take the aquarium back to the store. I'm just crossing my fingers they will take it back without any hassles. My boyfriend already called the guy yesterday so he knows we're having problems with it. I actually didn't sleep very well thinking about it and I think it's better to take it back then always be worrying something is wrong with it.

There is another tank there similar to this one but a better brand and about 200 dollars more. I'm going to measure the thickness of the glass. It isn't as long as this tank either so I think it will work out better. It's actually 3 gallons bigger though

If I could only turn back time I wouldn't of bought this tank!!! I think the lesson learned is if it's too good to be true..it probably is!!!!

Lets just hope they take it back

I just called the store and talked with the guy I bought it from and he said it would be no problem to bring it back I just need to make sure it's really clean because he is going to take it back to the manufacturer. He said it sounded faulty. What a RELIEF

Now I just had to empty a bunch of sand out of it!!

Yeah I have a 26 gallon about 2 1/2 foot long and it has no braces either and it's very strong.

Thanks everyone for all your help, I really appriciate it

I'm happy everything worked out.

We all know fishkeeping can be stressfull at times, but the last thing you should have to worry about is your tank exploding.
