Hi sid.sarah :)

I'm going to move your thread to the New to the Hobby section. My posting on it will bring it to the top of the list.

I hope someone who is familiar with this will help you get started. :D

It's usually just a case of putting of your tank water into a test tube and adding the specified amount of drops from a test bottle. You then wait a few minutes and compare the colour of the water to a test card which will tell you the results.

Obviously read the instructions first. Once you've done it a few times, it all becomes second nature.

Good luck!

Paul.

Lol you go out and buy yourself an arowana and dont even know how to use a test kit you do make me laugh why dont you go back and post on the other forum as you like it when the americans tell you its fine to cram a silver arowana into a tank that is only 19" wide. I think you need to have a good look and think about what your doing and start of your fish keeping hobby with some easy fish.

Mark,

You are unbelivable,

you know its funny but i posted all those topics at the same time!!!

and i have been told buy many ENGLISH people that my Arrowana will be ok in my tank 2 of them were fish rehoming experts i found trying to re-home him!!!!!, they both said that although the width was not ideal, because he has plenty of swim space to strech then the width would not be much of a problem! if the tank was only 4 feet then he would get a back deformation because his spine would not be able to strech out!! but because my tank is 8ft then he will be happy and ok up to 24in so i have done all i can do!!!

and with regards to your comments i bought a case full of all the different water tests and as i say on topic all i have to do is figure out how to use it but i thought ide get everyone involved because MOST people like to chat about new experiences!!!!!!!!!!!! i have had test strips for the whole time i have had my fish but thought it woulld be a good idea to upgrade to the proper tests as it is, it is easy doing the tests and all my tanks have perfect water if a little hard but thats the area!!!!!

Also at first you did bother me with your comments but as time has pasted and i have read soooooo many topics with comments from you and i have come to the conclution that you only nice to MOD's and you dont really say anything nice and only post when you get the chance to put people down!!!!! i think you are a pain in the neck to be blunt!!!!!!

And before you gett on your high horse its just my opinion!!!!!!!!!!!!! :p :p :p :p

to be fair to mark it does say in your profile that your tank is 4ft long not 8ft

So you think a silver arowana will be ok in a 8 foot long tank that is 19 inches wide?

I suggest you watch the video in this link and see if you still think it will be ok http://www.fishforums.net/content/Members-...The-900-Gallon/

My silver is nearly 30 inches long and that is an 8 foot long tank that is 6 feet wide and the arowana uses every last bit of the space, if i'm honest even my tank isnt large enough for a silver arowana. Anyone who has told you that a 19" wide tank is big enough is talking complete rubbish.

Mark,

Why such a rude reply? You come across as a bit of an arrogant tw*t.

To be honest, I don't see how you can be laughing at other people's innocent mistakes when you ... "go on a forum and you can't even write in proper English! ...

Paul.

Look im not even saying he will be ok! but what i am saying is that i have been and still am trying to find him a home but its not easy!!! im not just gonna sell him to anyone where he will end up worst off so tell me got any ideas cause that might be usefull instead off slagging me off help would be construtive,

Every one makes mistake's, I have already said that our tank is not a life time home! But really every post i write he find's something to say! and its never nice or even its always like a stuck up Punk! lol is always included like i am the worst fish keeper in the worldi have three tanks and a pond im not killing my fish i have not lost any more fish than any one else so why keep on at me i go on another forum and he posts one that one too! he must be very SAD to be bothered to keep going on at me!!!!

I have explained my self time and time again (i should not even have to do this) and i have always said it nice!
now he's pissing me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sarah

Ps if he does not have any thing nice to say why post anything or if he cant make it sound like hes not laughing at you and trying to be-little me i am ok at being told i think you made a mistake but its the way its said everyone has different opinion's of wich i have no control!

so make up you own mind but please MARK unless you have and good ideas about where i can find someone that will take my fish to his dream monster tank then leave me alone. :p

thanks

Sarah

Sorry everyone else! :-( :-( :-(

I don't see any real rudeness there, its a bit blunt but then he's not the one cramming a fish with an adult size of nearly four feet into a tank that isn't half that width and trying to justify it by saying "experts" have said its OK. Did these "experts" also tell you that silver arowana's should grow at about 2 inches a month and easily reach 24 inches within the first year, that one in my video is only about 18 months old.

Buying the fish by mistake is no excuse, silver arowana are not rare fish and there is lots of information on size available on the Internet and in books, and they're not cheap fish either so its not like they are the kind of thing you buy on impulse and find out later it was a mistake. Everyone has a responsibility to research the fish they buy before handing over the cash and bringing the fish home, would you go to a pet shop and buy an exotic animal you know absolutely nothing about without doing some homework on it first ?

Re homing the fish is going to be difficult, people who have tanks large enough will either already have one or not want one and public aquariums and zoo's rarely take in common aquarium fish. You bought the fish and now its your responsibility to provide it with a decent sized home, i understand you probably don't have the room for a swimming pool sized tank but you already have an 8 foot tank so i suggest getting your credit card out and upgrading the tank to a 3 foot wide, there are plenty of reasonably priced tank manufacturers on the Internet and you should be able to get a tank that size made for under £1500, selling your current tank will offset the cost a little and you can use the filters you already have to start with as the bio load will be the same until you add more fish or the arowana has a grown significantly

Wow, even the moderators on this forum are rude!

Why did your fellow staff member move this to the "new to the hobby" section if it wasn't supposed to be there CFC? Sarah has said multiple times that she didn't know and made a mistake. How many people on this forum come here because they did not know how to start out or got some wildly bad advice from an LFS? The bottom line is that yea, it is easy to make a mistake like this and it happens all of the time with fish like Bala (silver) shark, ID sharks, tinfoil barbs, plecos, etc...etc...etc... Heck, you even go as far as to....

Re homing the fish is going to be difficult, people who have tanks large enough will either already have one or not want one and public aquariums and zoo's rarely take in common aquarium fish

...try cutting all of her options off by discouraging her from doing anything but get out a credit card. Who are you to tell people how to spend his/her money. Additionally....

Maybe you should ignore him. Believe me, I know it's a lot harder than it sounds.

This is what i intend to do from now on!

thanks guys!

You don't even let her ignore the rude comment even after she says she is working on a solution. You need to be ashamed of yourself.

Let me also say one more thing to you....

post on the other forum as you like it when the americans tell you its fine to cram a silver arowana into a tank that is only 19" wide.

I feel as though your allowing this comment which obviously implies that americans don't know what we are talking about is unbelievable! How you are a staff member here is definitely beyond me and how mark7616 was allowed to create a possible rift between the members due to nationality of this forum is incredible.

Sarah,

Let me be the first proud american to invite you over to a much more friendly forum and I will personally answer any and every question you have about test kits and hook you up with some people who might be able to find a more suitable home for your fish. I assure you that CFC and Mark7616 are not a good representative of any country and there are plenty of people to prove me right if you click on this:

Hurry up and erase this before someone else reads it CFC!

Wow, even the moderators on this forum are rude!

That's amatter of opinoin, others would say they just don't sugar coat their words.

Why did your fellow staff member move this to the "new to the hobby" section if it wasn't supposed to be there CFC?

Why indeed? The movements of some of our mods are a true mystery to me.

Sarah has said multiple times that she didn't know and made a mistake.

Yet she has gone to another forum and believed the first person who has said her tank is fine. The most cursory glance at posts on silver arowanas on here will show the huge growth rate of CFC's aro and how it cannot live any length of time in a tank only 24 inches front to back, let alone 19".

Or, as others would say, point out the reality of the case, just like how when someone claims they will just give their red tailed catfish to a public aquarium others will point out they don't want them.

Let me also say one more thing to you....

But that is your feeling, my reading is that if the person really wants to believe that 19" is fine for a silver for anything more than a quarantine tank, then she is welcome to go and talk to those people. This is a typical American response in my experience, if there is the possibility that someone is criticising America/Americans, they get upset and on the defensive.

And how dare a possible rift be generated by someone giving correct advice on the size of a fish!

Let me be the first proud american to invite you over to a much more friendly forum and I will personally answer any and every question you have about test kits and hook you up with some people who might be able to find a more suitable home for your fish. But any decent forum is going to point out that the tank is not large enough for the fish and will be too small within a year. CFC has spoken the truth about trying to rehome silver aros, how many people does your forum actually have with access to 8 foot by 6 foot tanks or larger?

People seem to have got upset that Mark, and CFC didn't just say "Oh that's nice, you have a silver arowana in a tank too small for it. Oh, others have said it is big enough, that's ok then"

This is the internet and not spoken words. Inflexion of tone is very difficult, while some blunt posts can appear rude, perhaps you should look at why they are posting it, and not take offence just because someone hasn't agreed with what you have done/said.
