Hi ,I`ve purchased a piece of bogwood from pets at home ,and it tells you to soak it for several weeks before adding it to the tank,to stop the water darkening,is there any quicker way?

Or if you don't like your water a tea coloured brown, just bung it into an empty dishwasher...no soap or salt....2 or 3 times. Did it with mine, rinsed it and threw it into the tank...weighted it with a stone and job done...2 weeks later took the stone off.

Agree with stand by setting. Tannins are good for most fish. Also gives a natural colour to the tank. If it's mopani then it's not too bad anyway. :)

Hi, I bought some bogwood from P@H and just bunged it in.

No brown tannins at all. :good:

Just bung it in as it is, the tannins are good for your fish.

spot on there.

@op, whatever you do, don't boil it. and if the tannins offend your sight. either add a small filter with carbon media or, add a sachet of carbon to your main filter. water changes will also control it.
