Bogwood

AGAIN YOU COULD BE RIGHT THE BOG WOOD i BUY IS ACTUALLY BOGOAK WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY RECOVERED FROM WATER AND CAN BE THOUSANDS OF YEARS OLD. THERE HAVE BEEN INCIDENTS OF NEWER WOODS BEINGS SOLD AS BOGWOOD iM WONDERING IF THIS IS THE CASE...

That is most likely the case. I do know though that the Mopani wood that my LFS carry have been "treated", so this might be why the wood is sinking for me.

Some piece of bogwood float some don't, I think with the larger pieces they dry them out more thoroughly because it reduces the weight so much (just a theory no actual evidence other than the only pieces of mine that have floated have been the larger pieces).

my wood now sinks :good: hurray!!!!!!!!! just checked the tag and it says mangrove, so not sure if thats the company selling it or if its actually a mangrove root... probably the second. but it sinks now so im not bothered... it looks great and sinks :good: thanks for all your help and advice :good:

boil it in water for 2 hours ( if you dont have a pot big enough for the entire thing to fit, boil half of it for 2 hours, flip it over and then do the other half for 2 hours ) then let it sit in a bucket of dechlorinated water for 2 weeks...
