Does this ever stop?

Never had such a large piece of bogwood in my tank. Its been in there about a month now and its still changing the water colour. The water is testing fine but it just looks dirty. Water only lasts a few days and it just looks dirty. Im tempted to get rid of it because ive never had this problem before.

it can take 6 months or more to get rid of tannins. You could try soaking it in boiling water to speed it up a bit but to be honest it'll still leech until all the tannins have gone.

I actually liked the tannins in my tank - it made it look natural and it's not hurting the fish in any way :)

Im used to clear water. Im paranoid there gonna die! I hardly ever test my water but ive tested it twice a day since i put bogwood in. It looks filthy! Dunno if i can wait 6 months.

I might experience this soon too. I just put a bogwood in my tank today.

Haha its worse when you get a piece of swamp root and this horrible fluffy mould stuff grows on it for a few weeks!

What's with the prejudice against tannin stained water? It looks awesome, it's good for your fish and it looks more natural.

Bet the one who has this tank is wondering: "Now where are my fish?"

Have you tried using carbon in your filter?

My swordie would probably eat that.

This stuff was thick and slimey and covered the whole of the wood, was disgusting!!
Bee would eat it, no matter how disgusting. She eats fish poop whenever it appears. X_X Can't say she doesn't have enough food, so I don't know why this happens.

If the bogwood will fit into your cistern, then every time you flush it will get new water! You'll know when it's finished releasing the tannins as the water will flush clear, but in the meantime you'll have tea coloured water in the toilet bowl rather than in your tank!!

That looks more like bacterial problem than tannins, the water should still be clear when tannin stained, not milky.

Thats a pretty good idea actually!

I love that idea. Shame the bogwood is twice the size of my cistern.
