Hi everyone, does anyone have any online recommendations for buying some bog wood?

I'm very nervous about buying wood. When I was younger we bought some (or what we thought was some) from our LPS and after soaking for a week etc we woke up to find all 6 of our parrot fish dead. ?

I've also heard of alot of LPS not selling bogwood just wood that is sundried so doesn't sink.

TIA

Hi ok I bought my first bit for this tank from aquatics centre £16 and it took over a week to fully sink despite soaking for days.
My recent lot are clearly tree roots of some sort but ok I treated with a heavy dose of steriliser tabs and scrubbed under boiling hot water and that is now in tank after a weeks soaking. The idea is to get rid of tannings and it is a common occurrence for white spots to grow on the wood and for it to go slimey. If seller is reputable and good reviews (got mine eBay) just take all precautions suggested and it should be fine.

Thanks....I bought this piece from someone on ebay. They had really good reviews so im hopeful.
I will boil on the oven for 6 hours and then soak in a bucket till it sinks before putting it in.

It can go either way, up or down... any suggestions?

Thanks ?

Try it in tank I’d suggest to see what looks better or is more functional for the look you are after.....

That depends on how the scape is going to be, and how the plants will be arranged. (IMO)

I'll take a picture of it once its in. I guess I could put it in and leave it for a few days and see how the fish like it and then turn it the other way. Let the fish decide haha

I will probably get some funny looks with my tank set up, as its got lots of Amythest crystals in it.

The fish may like the wood upside down, so they can swim through them. :) :fish:

Quick question.....how the hell am I meant to boil this for 6 hours. It won't fit in my biggest pot.
Any other suggestions (and don't say buy a bigger pot hahah)

I'm boiled big pans of water up and will put it in the sink, do that a few times before putting in bucket of water for week or 2

OK thanks....I let it soak as much I could in the sink covered in boiling water for few hours and now its in a storage box.

My mum has a big soup pot, so she's going to drop that round at the weekend....see if it fits in there.

I know the fish won't mind the colour, ive heard its good for them, but I cant have it that orange/brown, I dont mind a tinge but thats tooooooo dark. Although I do have a setting on my tank light to change it orange and it actually doesn't look bad
