Hi All,
I have a 20Gallon Tank, 10 neon tetras. 2 flying fox's and 2 1" bristlenose cats...
I am about to add a male and female Blue Ram, The tank is well planted, driftwood and stones and a little cave.
Ph. 6.2
temp in 26 deg cel.
nitrate
nitrite
ammonia are all at 0.
So my questions are:

1. Are the above conditions good to get the rams breeding?
2. Will the rams be happy with their other friends in the community?
3. If they do breed what will most likely eat the eggs??

Cheers People!

Andrew.

Firstly I dont know about flying foxes, so Im advising on the theory that these are placid well behaved fish?

Your ph is good for rams and providing you get yourself a pair, which isnt always easy, just because you have m/f duo doesnt mean they will like each other and pair off, however your tank isnt big enough to get 6 or so from small and let them pair off, so your taking your chances unless you get a known breeding pair.

Rams will be fine with the neons and Bn's (no idea on the flying foxes) someone??

Once you have a pair, they will clean an area of a rock most likely or in the substrate and do a ritual kinda dancing about, cleaning fanning the rock, once the eggs are laid, depending on if this is their first time spawn together, they may eat the eggs, this is normal and sometimes happens for the first few times, sometimes they can even get to the free swimming stage before they eat them, eventually though they do get it and fry will be raised well by the parents. During spawning and the raising they will become aggressive to other tankmates, the neons will be fine, as they will get out the way, not sure on the BN as they will attempt to get the eggs (again no idea on flying fox) so you may want to move them to a seperate tank once you know you have a pair (it recommended a 20g minimum for a pair).
