I am cycling a 55 gallon tank. Eventually I would like to have 3 variations of the Blue Gourami (Maybe Blue, Opaline, and Three-Spot). I assume I should get one male and two females.

Can the following co-exist peacefully with the Gourami?

Western (Australian) Rainbowfish, Rosy Barb, Penguin Tetra, Bleeding Heart Tetra, and pictus catfish.

I know I can't fit them all, but if they're compatible I'd like to keep 3 pictus and 5 or so of the barbs and/or tetras.

Thanks!

I would get the Gouramis first and I would get a Gold or Opaline male, and 2 females of your choice. I don't know too much about Rosy Barbs but I think I've heard they're very nippy. You wouldn't want a nippy fish to nip at the long feelers of the Gouramis. Bleeding Heart Tetras can also be nippy but not nearly as bad as Tiger Barbs or Serpae Tetras. You should also get at least 6 of whatever schooling fish you decide on, so they feel more comfortable & secure enough to not become nippy. Another point is supposedly keeping odd numbers reduces the stress and limits the nippy schoolers, so maybe 7 would be the perfect number for you.
