Here is mine. Its a full grown Female she is 4.5" and about 3 years old. Its kind of and old photo.

These fish eat tetras and other small fish. If a fish goes missing its always in the tank that she is in. They will have red or orange on tips of the Dorsal fin but not the tail. once they pair up they will breed like its going out of style. They are nice fish but Peaceful with other large fish bossy with little fish. I keep mine in the big boy tank and she never messes with any other the others she just keeps to her self out of the way. Its a good size fish not too big but not too small I like that.

I have 2 sorts of BA. I have a wild caught female, who looks very similar to snowflake's and has orange in the tail (still half convinced she is a gt  ) but my youngsters are have very black and brilliant blue markings. I will ask my personal photographer if she would bring her camera over and get a pic :good:

Not the greatest photo, but this is my "wild caught" pair, I sadly lost the male

ah i really like the look of them think i will get one when ive fully worked out my stock would they be ok with rummy nose tetras? also that would be so good if you could get some pics star as you know ill probably be getting them off you :good:

They will be fine with Rummy nose tetras if your fine with them being snacks. Blue acaras will eat small fish I just had another one of my tetras go missing in my Acaras tank. Only the strongest make it with an Acara in the tank.

this is my ol w/c female . i had to get rid of her cos she was a total ***** . as snowflake says only the strong cut it in a blue acaras tank.

i thought that they where peaceful ? what shoaling fish would work well with one? and like the orange on the tips mark

Peaceful and cichlid can mean differant thing for differant fish. Also just because a fish is "peaceful" does not mean he will not want to have a snack on smaller fish. Like I said my female is a bully with smaller fish but is a perfect angle with her larger tank mates. Large fast fish would be ok with blue acaras. Somethig with a larger body thoes skinny thin body fish are just too easy to fit in their mouth.

tiger barbs were fine with my blue acara , i rekon giant danios would work well too

It all depends on the individual fish, my w/c female ba, the spitting immage of marks is an absolute sweetheart, she never bothers any other fish, I have just moved her in with the Rotkeils as the Elliotti were starting to give her a hard time all thats happened is she has looked at them they looked at her then went their seperate ways in the tank. Now the youngsters I have a friend had a couple one for his tank one for his dad's tank, the one his dad had is a nightmare chasing everything (it may end up back here yet!) where the other one is absolutely fine. Its the same with severums, Vinny (red spot) is a gent, so gentle and doesnt bother the other fish, where as Harry (red spot) I cant post on a family forum what sort of a devil he can be with other fish.

Pic of my youngsters, this is one of the 2 pairs that have recently spawned.

If you could find some larger Columbian tetra's or grow some out in another tank ?
I have kept the columbian tetra's with Blue Acara and Severums.
Problem is most of the larger tetra's offered at stores are quite small. But once they reach adult size, they are a bit large to be considerd snacks by the Acara and they are quick as greased lightning.

i think for dithers ill have to see what is at offer and see them in person to see what i like but ill look out for suggested types and ye like all cichlids its bit of hit and miss i know i defiantly want a severum though

are these fish ok with angels? and with plants?? o really want a cichlid in my angel tank, was looking at bolivian rams but can find them but the lfs has a couple of gorgeous blue acara's so was wondering if they would be ok? also if not was thinking maybe a rainbow chichlid?
thanks
james

You already have cichlids in your "angel" tank

How big is the tank and what's in it...if the tank is big enough then a blue acara or rainbow could work. I'd suggest getting one when they are young as you'll have a lot more chance of it getting on with the other fish once bigger.
