Blue Acara

How would this work for me as a centrepiece fish?
My stocking is 5 good size keyholes, a large shoal of black ruby and ticto barbs, 9 panda cory and a L134. Looking for a centrepiece.

could possibly work but more likely you will find the acara too boisterous for the more shy keyholes

I have three Keyholes (1 male 2 female) in with 3 Acara's (1 male 2 female) and they get along fine. They have done for a good while now. All are easily 4" each and one Acara is 5" easily.

Ooh thanks Acara man. I have 5 keyholes and some crazy barbs that get the keyholes out to play, so this would be my ultimate set up to finish off with an Acara, because I want a Gold Sev but not with a 50 gallon tank

if you get a mellow 1 theres no reason it couldnt work but its worth bearing in mind they are a fish easily capable of dominating a tank and if you end up with 1 that is anything like mine was it wouldnt be good for the keyholes. mine used to dominate ( forcefully most of the time) tankmates including sevs twice its size and 2 6" plus geos and the acara was only 3.5 to 4 inches

Okies Mark thanks honey, I will obviously be very wary of that. I think it's like with any fish (referring to your community thread on general) whatever works for you, if it doesn't work, you change it I guess x

its all down to the individual fish at the end of the day if you fancy 1 why not give it a go after all if it doent work its not something that cant be changed, techniclly speaking some of my fish "shouldnt" work together but do .

Yes exactly Mark, you never know unless you try, I have the added bonus of being home most of the day and able to check regularly on the fish

YES agreed !!! I had a Blue acara male 3" a bit smaller then my 1 yr old Keyhole male 4" and well this acara killed my Bolivian ram and then Harassed my keyhole to the point were he would not leave his corner. I found that Acara a new home. I have a female acara that lives with only cory cats and is great with them.

Not all are mean like this guy but you cant be sure.

I think an angle fish would be nice.

IME keyholes and acaras get along so long as the acaras arnt spawning

i agree with snowflake that an angel would be a better match as the koyholes stay near the bottom and the angesl are more middle dwellers.
but thats not to say BA would'nt work
