Saw one of these guys on aquabid and couldn't quit thinking about em. Keep thinking of the movie "Austin Powers", "sharks with freakin lazer beams on their freakin heads",

i imagine they are alot of work to keep and prolly pretty dangerous (iv seen em on TV :D how big do these guys get and how big of a tank do they require?

keep in mind i have no intention on keeping these, this is just curiosity :)

aww no replys in a week, o well, iv done my own research (i wasn't jokeing).

turns out they require sumthing like 5000 gallons to live comfortabley, and require almost constant movement, so they need tons of room to swim around, im guessing we are talking about a liveing room sized set-up here. they also require a good sized feeding once a week or small one every other day. beleive it or not i found a shark forum full of people who keep sharks, cool people.

whats the url to that shark forum? sounds interesting I'd love to take a peek.

This one slipped past me..
They need large tanks.. actually they need huge tanks!
They usually grow to about 3ft-5ft. Are fast swimmers and need enormous amounts of space.

Not generally a good home addition.

from sharksondemand.com you can get a black tipped reef shark for a measly $1200. If you really wanna spend some bucks, for $8000 you can get a bull shark :S

youre going to need about a 30 X 20 foot tank if you want it to be happy. its best left to the public aquariums.

Anyone who keeps a fish the size of a shark in a home aquarium is retarded.

They need to be in a public aquarium at the bare minimum ideally they are left back in the ocean. They arent like alot of marine tropical fish that stay in a very similar spot for the duration of their life. Sharks will cover vast areas of water, some constantly scavanging, others decending to the reefs at night to feed on an unsuspecting grouper or something equally substantial.

I know you were just curious, but unless you are thinking of looking at one of the types of smoothound that is realistically able to be kept in a home aquarium, then dont bother at all.

how ironic, i went to my LFS' shark feeding tonight. THey have 2-3 black tipped reef sharks in a 3800g custom -built tank and are constantly replacing the fishh with juveniles once they grow too big. They fed the sharks squid and wow...they're FAST! They definately need a ton of space.

...How would you be retarded? Many people enjoy the challenge of raising an exotic species of aquaria, and a shark as a pet would be very, very stunning. Hopefully, when I am old enough to buy a house, I plan on custom building a home around a 10 000g reef tank with groupers, sharks, rays and eels. Deos that make me retarded?

i believe he said home aquarium...chances are most people won't have a 10,000g reef tank in their house...maybe in the pool outside, but hey if you got the flow to spend and the space to fill in a huge ass house...why not go for it

lol, edited to add, i used to want to build a house with all kinds of things (tiger compound, snake rooms, etc..) and get ish like new ferrari's "when i got old enough". now i'm 26 and have realized some things just aren't feasible...good luck with your plans lol

When you get tanks of this type of size you can no longer use normal live rock as it looks like pebbles in the tank. You need to ship in specialist sized liverock and this is usually lifeted into place via heavy lifting gear or cranes.. as you can imagine, the price will be asstronomical.. not even the average millionair could feasably afford it :*)

Best bet buy a casino, they turn enough of a profit to do something like that. Or if you like to join the working class, just go to work for a company that takes care of the tanks this large and you can feel like its yours.
