My new girl, shipped here a week ago (I suspect that to be a reason for this - shipping stress), has caught some black spots. A formalin bath is a recommended treatment, but I have no idea where to find formalin, since the old LFS which carried things like that recenty closed. I found it online. Is there an alternative, or do I need to order it and get overnight shipping?

The fish doesn't eat anymore either.

Can I do a "plastic surgery" and remove the black spots with my finger? (They're parasites from what I've read -- more specifically, worms)

I happen to have one pomacea (?) bridgesii snail in my tank. I'm going to order some overnight shipped and treat everyone for it.

I can't find the Trifon anywhere. Will formalin work? I found that at http://www.thatfishplace.com

That Fish Place is out of formalin. I finally found a place which carries formalin and Trifon. I ordered both of them. http://www.siamsbestbettas.com/diseases.html says to do a formalin bath at 75ppm for one hour. I don't know if I should do formalin and/or Trifon. I'm thinking a one hour formalin bath at 75ppm and then Trifon would work.

How long should I use Trifon? She's still alive, but not eating. What I really care about is getting her to eat just one Bio-Gold pellet or a bloodworm. If she doesn't eat anything within the next few days, she will die of starvation.

I already tried CopperSafe. The clock is ticking. I can't wait much longer. If she doesn't eat something, she's going to die of starvation.

Nope. I'm trying to heat the tank to 85*F (slowly - like 1*F extra per hour) to hopefully cook the parasites. I hope to have this done by the time FedEx comes with the package. Once FedEx comes, and after it's 85*F, I will add formalin to the tank, and then do a water change and add Trifon.

It's my 10 gallon hospital tank.

Well I can do up to 86*F, so I'll do 86*F. The parasites should be freeswimming after it's 86*F. The one hour formalin bath at 75ppm and the Trifon should then kill them.

For some reason, the heater decided to go up to 80*F now instead what I set it at. Or possibly I accidentally mis-set it. Luckily it didn't shock her or anything. I set it to go to 81*F and I'm just waiting now. In the next few hours, I will increase 1*F per hour.

It could also be melanophore migration, which is ammonia burns healing.
Google for a pic and see if its similar.

Can you get a pic?

I found a picture of a goldfish with that.

She has it on her "swimming fins" (what do you call those? - the fins that she uses to swim) and a few on her fins in the back too. Nothing on her mouth. She is not eating.

It's now 83*F in there. Shouldn't the parasites be freeswimming by that time? And FedEx hasn't come yet with the meds, so I'm only using heat and aquarium salt for this.

It's jumped to 84*F. So I finally did get it to go up 1*F more. I might be able to get away with 2*F more in the next hour.

I'm still waiting for FedEx to deliver the meds. Hopefully it'll be 86*F by the time they show up.

It's now 86*F and stable. The parasites aren't gone just yet, but this should definitely help the formalin and Trifon treatments.

One hour formalin bath at 75ppm done. I'll wait a few days for improvement. If not, I will do the maximum dose of formalin again.
