Just a quickie, Are there any small snails (trumpet snail size) with black shells or very close to black ? tropical, bred or naturally found?

yer african tiger snail but it was endagered and died out last month

Thats terrible.

I have never seen a black snail in a tank, I was asking as i have black sand. I Think i will stick with trumpets, surely the way they multiply they will be here to stay! ;)
Unless there are any common alternatives....?? (for a tropical fish tank)

Would anybody have had any success at breeding trumpets apples common snails with black shells?

So they are extict then? are their any plans to reintroduce them into the wild from captivity?

:thanks:

theres non in captivy but scientist haz 4 males and 4 felmales and they reproudce a lot when they get 100 they are gona put them in fish shops but keep 4 males and 4 females by june they will be all other the place:) for more info send me a message

i ave bred all sorts of snails y u wana know?

its called the afician tiger even know it lives in england??

Thats good to know, i do not intend to keep any, I was concerned as this was the first i heard of them being endangerd,

I have a couple of small planted aquariums which are taking up most of my time at the moment establishing parameters,

I have some trumpet snails in them at the moment keeping algae down etc...and another variety which has come in with some plants, but is still to small to ID,

I was just curios to find out if there were any trumpets or similar i could use in these tanks which were black not brown like mine.....

well im just a lil helper:) between u and me some people still ave the afican tiger people stop sellin them 2 weeks ago wen they had no more stock pss i ave 2 tehe

You should check out www.snailshop.co.uk, they have dozens of exotic aquarium snails listed up for sale if you are interested. They don't have black snails, but they have some really stunning other types of snails if you are interested- the giant brown ramshorn snail is about the closet you'll get to a black snail, its very dark in colour;

Glad to help :good: .
I haven't personally bought any snails off it yet (i'm planning to in a couple of months time though), but i know other members here who have and so far all the reports i have heard so far have been very positive of the place :good: .

There is actually a black variety of the trumpet snail, but I've not heard anything on them apart from pictures on one German website that was selling them (they were out of stock naturally though).
Cant find that website any more either......I really need to organise my favourites folder :(.
Just so you know, you may want to check German snail websites (there's a lot of them) or German invertebrate forums to see if anyone has any spare :good:.
