Black Ghost Knife - Swollen And Side Now Ruptured

Shouldnt have done any damage then. Have you taken the carbon out now? You probably have, but just checking.

Some new pictures, today he has a slight white "power" on him.

These are the best pics I've managed to get so far. Still frisky around the tank though.

Could just be the angle, but the swelling looks to me to be going down a bit, the white powder could be a reaction to the meds or could be the infection spreading, its hard to tell. If hes still active and feeding, its a good sign though.

Looking closely at my full size pic, it looks more bobbly than powdery. So, I'm thinking that it may be a reaction.

Full Size Picture (6MB!)

I'll keep you updated, see how he is at the end of the day.

Keep us all updated bless him.Good luck.

this morning he had the same white bits on the other side of his body.

Just wondering, with this medication I understand that I need to increase the air in the tank, however I'm not sure about the water changes. Do I do a water change before I put in the next dosage or do I run the treatment through first and then start water changes?

What does it say, it will usually advise whether to do a w/c between doses, normally you dont, but different meds tell you different things.

The white bits, do they look fluffy in appearance, like a fungus?

Can you describe the white bits in more detail.
A dusting of talc can be velvet.

Evening guys,

the white stuff looks more like a jelly than dusty. So, not sure at all!

I've taken a picture, but its fairly hi-res - this way you can see it a little clearer. The wound now looks like it has a little fine-stringy hanging out of it. Very odd.

The stringy thing coming out of it does it look like a worm or parasite.

Is the jelly coming out of the wound as it sounds infected.

I would dab the wound with melfix or methylene blue.
You will have to wrap the fish in a cloth soaked in tank water and ask someone to hold the fish down while you dab the wound and take a closer look at it.

Used undiluted,Methylene Blue can be applied as antiseptic directly on to wounds and damaged areas using a cotton bud as a swab.

Is it me, or is the wound getting darker? I am colorblind, but its getting harder for me to see the details in the wound itself. That usually means the color is getting darker. If the wound started out white, and is darkening, then its infected. badly.

**I would be careful using a cotton swab...you know how the cheap ones come apart when you dab something with them? If I were you i would use a "high quality" swab. Less chance of a bit of cotton to get in the wound and make things worse. **

He really needs issolating and using antibiotics.
As i doubt that anti internal bacteria med by interpet is up to the job.

This morning I took a look at him - the swelling has gone down quite a lot, and the wound is closing up! The white marks seem to have all but gone too!!

I say closing up, but it seemed to be a LOT smaller than yesterday

I'm going to take a look at him tonight when I get home, but I think he's doing ok...

That looks really bad now, call your local vet and ask them if you bring him in, can they prescribe an antibiotic.
