Biotope Question

What is a Biotope??? seen the word a few times on here and wondered what people were on about lol might be a stupid question but if ya dont ask ya dont get.....

Instead of just keeping fish and plants from every where you pick a river or lake ect and only keep fish and plants from that area to try and make it as natural as possible.

Ahhhh cool I thought it might be that, also thought it was like the way the tank was set out like a running river current lol.

Im doing a Rio Tapajos biotope in my 150G theres alot of great cichlids and catfish from there but if you want a planted tank it wouldnt be a good place to choose. quite a few people have stream biotopes. I have a 21G coldwater Myanmar which i wasnt to turn into more of a stream looking tank as i get the money.
