Where are my LEGO people?

I used to be into legos when I was a kid, but now that I am an adult, I have put away childish things ;-)
I think you completely missed the point. Lego isn’t just for kids. There is a whole creative community of AFOLs (adult fans of Lego) and are now sets aged 18+. Additionally retired sets increase in value of 11% each year, arguably better returns than stocks, shares or wine 🙂

Maybe you’ll go back to it when responsibilities of work, home and bills get too boring.

Growing up I had a fair amount of Lego. I still have it stored away in a storage box actually. The one thing I do remember well was a phase of stop motion YouTubers making really good stop motion films around 2008-2014.

An all time classic.

I know people who love what they do for a living (and others not so impressed) who still keep a supposedly childish interest alive.
A family member runs a successful small business in a competitive field. His place employs a few people and supports a few families, but also is very demanding with his time and energy. He has a small room in his house with some wicked lego in it. It's part of how he relaxes and gets his mind into a different place when he needs that.

Healthy adults have diverse lifelong interests. One size doesn't fit all. A lot of people go through a period where they want to tell others how to be adult. Usually, those people aren't really adults - they live at home, have never had a job and are trying to do what they're told to. They often change when they get out into the rough and tumble world where they scramble for work, have to find and pay for an apartment, and have to deal with human relationships and people who don't live their way. They grow up.

Ideally, since I come from a culture with seafaring values, I think everyone should travel alone far from their country and culture early in their independent days. Nothing pulls your eyelids up like having a lot to explore.

I think part of growing up is finding your own spaces, often through hobbies and escapist fun. Hopefully, people stay away from drugs, cults and gangs. Ideally, you get into some stimulating things you can learn about, or that challenge the nimbleness of your brain. I didn't get seriously into exploring my curiosity about fish until my late twenties, and people who relax with spatial tasks may go for Lego, woodworking, or aquascaping. A lot of my friends are so adult they have reached pre-retirement, and they talk about the impending freedom of having the free time to learn wildlife photography, take woodworking courses, travel, learn quilting, cycle... not the money making adulting narrow perspectives value so much.

Lego can fit right in, I figure. It's not my thing, but that makes it interesting. No one gets harmed in the solving of such puzzles...

I'm positive "play" is a good thing... but work, has has become my new play, at this stage in my life... so, I'm a boring guy, right now... I used to play, with multiple things, from video games, power sports, fire arms, cards, but reached an "age", or time in my life, where I'm too busy, to play. which I think being too earthly busy, to play, is both a sin, and not good for us... I'm kind of semi retired now, and hoping as I retire, I will find more time to play, though I'm sure, as I've worn myself out over the years, I'll be going through a period of not doing much, resting... but to keep my mind active, I'm sure I'll find play activities to do... I just suspect it won't be lego's... but I say play on... with whatever you enjoy... it's something different for everyone, but necessary...

You guys are too serious. There was a wink at the end for a reason.

Both my sons were into Lego as children in the 1980s, then Technics Lego in the 1990s. The younger one now has an almost 3 year old son, and he complains that Lego isn't what it used to be. He says the kits they had could be used to make multiple different items; the current kits can make just one.
The kits are smaller nowadays. Back in the 70s & 80s you got an entire building in the set. Now you get the front of the building and an inch or two on each side, no back. They also cost a lot more, even accounting for inflation. the variety is more too though and some of the Star Wars sets are pretty detailed. You used to be able to buy the Millenium Falcon and it came in 3 types (cheap, medium and expensive and the prices started at around $150 and went up to over $1000 for the big set.

Right now I'm trying to collect the new flower sets they have. They brought out a couple of flower sets some years back and I asked if they could make more different flower sets, so they did. Now I just have to find them and get them. :)

yep, most are still boxed. Some get opened and I buy extras from the sets to make them bigger because most Lego sets are just the front now, like a Hollywood studio set.
WOW! Cool. Yep thats a #1 pet peeve, for me. The inflation is the excuse. I think, it is part of it, but it is mostly just people selling things smaller and asking for bigger Ds, this world nowadays, people sell stuff incomplete and ask full price. Like Super Smash bros ultimate on Switch (dont play video games anymore), they made a DLC and charged the price of the game for 15 or so new fighters lol.

Here is a old set.... the town square modular, back in the day when LEGO figs faces were two dots and a mouth. Then a new police station no back, barely a building...

I also had to build A ROOF for the new grocery store set in my city, pic above in first post, the small green building.

btw there is a back to the town square, with windows and details! And that police set is for 6 and up, but heck that is what most say now and the others are same size lol

Near where I live now there is a Lego Store (Museum?) where they have annual? build competitions! Not for everyone but still cool! I think they let anyone do it, maybe kids vs adults? Or just a regular thing?

When my husband was mass laid off from his 1st "professional job", 2 of his coworkers got him a Lego set. Neither of us recall what it is now, but "new in box"...a retirement plan? No, not really, just a thoughtful gift. Along with some Kentucky bourbon, lol.

I LOVE LEGO. I mostly am a huge DC fan. Fun fact, watched the LEGO movie last night, does not get old lol. So lemme see ur builds and mocs, or just lego collection in general, hope there are something LEGO lovin people here, cuz it has a special place in my heart. I have a LEGO collection, a city that covers a table, actually, not to big, but ya know. And I have billions of parts and such. Lemme see ur LEGO!!!

Ps, excuse the white speaker on the table, and the blue water that has no tiles on it, a lego creation is always a work in progress!! lol
Do a lego aquarium
Don't recommend putting any fish cuz they wouldn't feel comfortable but some shrimps & snails should be fine

Good idea, I have a 5g holding hornwort rn that has cycled water in it and sand from another tank, and there are already snails alive in there. Bladder snails. @OMG_FL great idea never thought of it!

I'm not sure that is a cycled tank. Do you have an established filter in there?
Not cycled filter no. I said water from a cycled tank if that makes sense. I added a brand new cartridge to a HOB so it is not cycled. But the bladder snails in there are alive and well. Pic

I need to let in marinate! Season it if you will. I am not going to add shrimp or other snails anytime soon!
