rofl, I only had a quick look, thought it was some moss growing across rocks!

I could remove that pipe but with the shape of the orb it would be really difficult to fit a filter onto the side. Its not ideal but I suppose its a question of making do with what ive got. Recycling and all that!

I haven't looked at a Biorb (bowl version) but I think it is the same as my Biorb life (the cube version) as far as the filter set up goes. I have just removed the UG rocks, and filled it with sand (or you could use gravel), being careful not to cover the air inlet in the bottom. You can either attach an airstone to the inlet (because the surface agitation is important with the small surface area) and run in internal filter, or attach a sponge filter to the original inlet.

I have been using this conversion for a QT tank, and will also use it for a fry tank (hopefully) and may be a hospital tank (hopefully not). Only problem is that with an internal filter and a heater cable the lid doesn't sit on very well, so I think the sponge filter may be a better fix.
