Bioballs Vs Sponges

Soon I will be downsizing to a 60 litre, and I can only fit so much of my current media into the new filter, I will then be doing daily water changes to cope with the bacteria loss.

So heres the question, which has a higher media capacity? Bioballs or sponges? I would have thought Bioballs because they have a higher surface area and water flows through them better, so what are your thoughts?

id say they have great surface area but cant filter stuff out of the water like fish excrement and debrees

but sponges have still got very good surface area aswell as the other side so


id go with the sponges

i think you are right Truck but in a smaller filter i would be tempted with the sponges as the balls take up quite a lot of room and obviously are round so dont fill the area very tightly.
can you add 2 types of media?
if so why noy add the sponges then add something else to seed from the sponges. eheim do some very little round media, pro substrat i think its called and would give a good amount of surface area

Thanks, I may just use sponges, they're easier to fit in and cut to size.
