right im trying to find a new tank and would love to keep a oscar or 2 but im stuck and only have a 5ft gap and the biggest tank iv found so far is 5x2x3 (LWH) would this be big enough as iv seen people with oscars is 4x2x2 but i know thats to small so should i buy this tank or wait for a few years till i move and have more room thanks for help

A 4x2x2 is fine for an Oscar. Minimum for an Oscar is 55 gal but many (including myself say 75 gal is better. I v got an Oscar, a breeding pair of jack dempseys, pair of jewels and a severum in my juwel rio 400 (450 litre) which is 5 foot in length Just under 2 foot wide and just over 2 foot tall.

thats ok then i just noticed i made a mistake its not 3ft tall its 2.5ft

um not sure to be honest all iv wanted is oscars so will sort that out first then look at stocking around that iv got a 9" common plec so he will prob end up in there as well

Ah right :) just make sure what ever you add later on is the same size or bigger than the Oscar and is going to be a decent size when full grown or it could end up as food. Oscar can and will eat anything that fits in their mouths. Also they produce a lot of waste so the more filtration the better. As with a lot of the bigger cichlids :)

yeah got a ehiem pro3 at moment but looking at getting another to do the job or getting fx5

Iv not used them but I have got an fx5 on my 450 litre and the best iv had. Iv also got a fluval 406 running on my snakehead tank (vision 260, 260 litre) a fluval 305 running on my rio 180 home to 2 green terrors, a fluval U2 internal on my 140 litre with 2 kribensis and 3 sterbai cory and 3 peppered cory and i have an interpet pf4 on what's going to be my community set up

so you like your fluval filters then lol iv also got a interpet running along with my ehiem only because i had a spot in my tank that wasnt getting any flow throu as its a corner tank so had to add the other smaller filter to get some flow

Yeah lol I find fluvals very reliable and take minimal effort to maintain. They are also very good build quality and surprisingly quiet in my opinion. I do like the interpets as well, my pf4 is very good and again it's quiet and easy to clean :)

fluval might be a option to be looking at then i know parts are easy to come about for them would like a fx5 though as long as the cabinet will hold one cause there a fair size

My rio 400 cabinet holds it :) so I would of thought as long as the tank is 5 foot or more and u go for a door door cabinet then you should be fine

2 door cabinet I meant lol

ive had both the fx5v and eheim pro 2080 currently running the eheim i found the fx5 a real pain to maintain and if you have sand you will find tons of it builds up by the impeller which creates an annoying grrrrrring sound by the motor. i much prefer the eheim pro 3 due to its wheels and nd you really only need to take the motor housing out to clean the top sponge and it has far less. also as far as oscars go please adopt one and don't buy a juvi, there are so many needing suitable homes.

I take it you have very fine sand for it to be a pain like that. I have Limpopo sand and don't need to do any maintanence what so ever. Only to give it a quick clean every 3 months or so.

well i think my plans for oscar are going out the window as went and showed a few in real life to my other half and she hated them and as the tank is in our living room they have to be liked by her as well so now looking towards red spotted severums
