Bichirpalooza

nah think i will just stick to this one for now. maybe get a mate in the future.

sorry For hijacking but do they like to hide?? as mine is just swimming up and down against the side of the tank
They feel more comfortable when there are places to hide, but I've seen bichir tanks that have nothing in them. If yours is acting neurotic like that, then I would put some places to hide in there, etc. What size tank is it?

Don't worry about hijacking. ;)

it is 130L tank.

there are places for him to hide but he hasnt swam anywhere else in the tank just stays in the corner.

Will move some plants and make a slate cave i think

Sounds good. I just think he/she needs to settle in a bit more. Mine was shy when I first got her, but now she's all over the place. :good:

ok cheers for the information.

Slate cave has been made just incase s\he prefers hiding.

at least i know where to come for birchir information now.

Btw your's are looking good how long til they grow that big?

I would say that in a few months yours will grow fat and get longer. They are fast growing species and they are complete gluttons (which probably contributes to the fast growth!). But in about 6 months, yours should be just as big and fat as mine.

you were robbed at those prices for a senegalus:

I paid as follows:

4" senegalus senegalus = £15
4" senegalus meridonalus = £12
3" delhezi = £25
9" endlicheri endlicheri = £60 (inc delivery)

More pics.

The bichirs like to lay in front of the overflow... it's weird. I guess it's like a massage???

Well, there are albino senegalus out there and they aren't much more expensive or anything than the regular ones. But, the one that I have is a platinum, which means that it is pure white, but not albino. It lacks the red eyes like the albino. I'm not quite sure about all of the genetic aspects of it, but it is a very very rare color morph.

This is what an albino looks like:

And this is one of my platinum:
