Bichirpalooza

Oh my. Exactly what I've been waiting for. Fantastic bichirs invader. :good:
Thanks again, veil.

Do I need to start putting locks on my tanks? ;)

Hahaha I don't think so. I'd never steal them. Plus, it'd be quite embarrassing to go to jail for stealing a fish.
 Just making sure.

One more... the senegal looks distorted, but the picture is pretty clear.

The platinum senegalus is amazong, ive never seen one around if I did it would be in a bag and on tis way to my tanks now :)

My sengalus fight, I have two males, one is a senegalus senegalus and the other a senegalus meridonalis (probablu spelt wrong) so I had to seperate them, and I need to shift my endlicheri asap, if any of you polypterus lovers out there who are with 100miles of chester, and dont mind parting with say £50 you can have it ;) free personal delivery too.

/mer stop hijacking the thread and go back to staring at the platinum senegalus

Good luck finding one for sale in the US (or the UK for that matter). The guy I bought them from sold all of them a while back (I think a guy on another forum bought a bunch to try to breed them) and I have never seen them for sale since. It was actually my first bichir... I guess I jumped in without testing the water!

loving the fish just a shame i dont have a tank big enough for them and the money as there quite expensive

i get what you're driving at. the last thing you want is to see your plat.'s head in the mouth of your ornate.

i thought it was only me but it seems like delhezi's are getting rarer and rarer. the more commonly seen ones would be endlicheri, ornates, palmas, wild lapradei and retropinnis even. it took me quite awhile to come by a delhezi and of course i took it right on the spot

Well, I've looked around the internet, and they extremely rare and expensive.

But it'd still be worth it!

are we talking platinum senegalus or P. tuegelusi

Platinum Senegal.

A Tuegelusi is rare enough around here (I rarely see Ornates and Endlis!), it be nearly impossible for me to find a Platinum Tuegelusi!

Regular P. senegalus is very cheap and could be kept in a tank as small as a 30 gallon by itself, although I wouldn't recommend it. I mean, people have done it, but senegals seem to be very active and I can't justify putting on in only a 30gl. It's your personal choice.

I know what you mean about the delhezi... I honestly have never even seen on in person. There is one on aquabid.com right now, but I can't justify paying for a fish and paying the same amount to ship it to my house. It's funny that I won't do that, but I paid for the platinum without hesitation. I also want to be able to see the delhezi I am going to get before I buy it, because I want one with really bold markings. I would hate to pay for one I have never seen and getting one that barely has any markings at all.

As far as I know, there are no platinum teugelsi, because they are not being captive bred. I don't even want to know how much that fish would be! I have seen a platinum endlicheri before, though! :D

just bought a senegal birchir in the uk cost me £25 and is about 4/5" long.

was going to buy the ornate birchir but was £59.99.

im loving it although i need to get a new tank now for its fellow tank mates when it gets bigger.

25 pounds? That's like $50! I hate to say it, but over here you can by juveniles for about $5-$10.

If you ever want to have an ornate, please make sure that you have a tank for it long term when you buy it. Mine grew to a foot in about 5 months or so and it's only halfway to the full size. My tank is large enough for one of these monsters, but the only problem is that the ornate is much more predatory than other upper jaw species. Choose tankmates wisely.

oh well i have never seen one before apart from when i seen your's on here when i joined yesturday.

I seen one at my LFS and thought i'd buy it.

I and saving at the moment for a larger tank in about 2-3 months so should be all good.

Check the index at the top of the home page and you can see more info and pictures on different bichir species. :good: I've overpaid on fish before, but in the end it really doesn't matter, as long as you enjoy the fish you have.

Are you getting a larger tank for the senegal or are you still planning on getting an ornate? If you are going to do that, I would not house them together long term (that's what a few members and I were talking about on this thread) because the ornate may decide that the senegalus is lunch one day.

nah think i will just stick to this one for now. maybe get a mate in the future.

sorry For hijacking but do they like to hide?? as mine is just swimming up and down against the side of the tank
