I Was rearranging my plants for extra swimming space for him.........as i had up lid i heard a slosh........thought it was my arm after 10mins realised i hadnt seen catfish but he had hid alot........so i looked behind tank to see him there.........put him bac in massaged him and he began to breath after 10 mins was swimmin..i thought fewww.only to find him dead in morn  basically im just warning to allways keep 1 eye open regarding your fish

Why would you have to massage a fish after you put it back into the water?

Though sorry for your loss, I advice you to not get a new one. Incase you haven't seen this thread before, please have a look at it:

Pangasiidae Catfish/ Shark Catfish

A lot of fish are great jumpers though =/ Beware of tiny holes (like the gaps at the back of the tank where the heater/filter wires come through) as well, fish can and do jump out of them as well.

i know i was stupid but you learn by your mistakes and he only cost £3.......so not too bad but my wife was angry :grr: with me

1.well thats a good thing.sry for your wife being mad if that does anything.LOL

2.u massage the fish to get its blood pumping and organs working again.(doesn't always work)

Thanks fish I never knew that, when my common pleco jumped out of the tank a couple years ago all I did was put it back into the tank and he was fine.

Sorry to hear!

My shrimp escaped on an ornament that was meant to be cleaned. I couldnt find him in the tank after 15 mins of panic searching.. then I found him half dead on my desk.

I put him back in the tank and he jetted off though. Tough lil' newbie he is

HI...I made the newbie mistake of buying 2 pangasius cats (iridescent sharks). It's sad because all the LFS's stock them by the tankful and don't they look beautiful? Too bad that don't tell you that they can grow more than 2 feet. One of mine is at least 5 inches plus and now LOOKS like a shark. Petsmart lists their maximum size as 8". NOT.

Initially, these fish are great swimmers and are out and about. As they get older and larger, they become more nocturnal. They are very 'skittish' and at the slightest disturbance, they will bolt...AND QUICKLY. They can smash into the tank wall or literally leap out of the tank. My large one now takes an entire sinking pellet in one fell swoop.

I don't recommend them for anyone, if you are a conscientious aquarist, unless you have a very large tank to house them in. EVen then, they can grow quite large. My two cats will have to find other homes eventually and I hope someone will take them. It was an early mistake of mine that I regret. JMO. SH

I had a pair of breeding swardtails who suicided themselves within 5 days of themselves.
The female couldn't go on living without her lover.

Actually, those were the only fish lost to jumping..

This just really states one must do research I thought my Bala Sharks got big but the size of this to a man is massive. Why do shops sell these things.... To the general public.
I think a size limit unless you can prove you can home them It's so cruel.
