i have a tank with quite a few female bettas , and i noticed they were disappearing , but no bodies around, as i have a jewel tank, with jewel filter i needed to check, lo and behold they were in the filter alive and well, the problem is everytime i clean out the filter replace sponges etc, they make a beeline for the hole in the side and ive got a filter full of fish , its very awkward trying to stop them getting in, and changing the sponges at the same time , anyone any ideas , we did get them all out last time, god knows how they got back in again , and its strange how they make a beeline for the filter , none of the other fish do it
any ideas pse

Get one of those suckers that are used to hold heaters, filter etc to the side of the tank and stick that over the hole whenever you take the pipe out to clean the filter.

You could also provide a couple of coconut caves seeing as they like to hide inside things?

yes id like a couple of those coconut caves , but havent seen any around here, but they really have plenty of hiding places, just seems to be the filter they are attracted too

Dump the Juwel filter and get a Fluval 3+ or external canister :D

i know fluval are good, but jewel is easier for me, have arthritis in my hands , cant afford external filter at the moment , tks for advise anyway
