Betta with others

Hey
What's your view or experience with having a Betta fish in a community tank?

Mine is currently living with 8 rummy nose

They all seem fine. Rummy entered the tank 2 weeks before the Betta.

Have you had a good or bad experience doing this yourself?

I've tried it a few times. Once with Harequin rasbora and once with CPDs. It can work, but I don't think it's ideal. My betta with the rasbora was hiding a lot and the CPDs were hiding a lot. When I took the bettas out, everyone was bolder and seemed to do better, even though there weren't any problems per se before. I also found it tricky to navigate feeding with them all together. Also, I had to keep the filter flow low for the bettas. Once I took them out, I was able to increase the flow on the filter on the bigger more populated tanks.

I keep mine with habrosus cories, harlequin rasboras, cherry shrimp and snails. He has killed a few shrimp but on the most part he doesn't really bother them, they don't hide. He completely ignores the snails and cories. The harlequins don't even school that tight so he is fine with them too during the day, but once I turn the light off he is chasing them a lot for a while then stops (it's the 2nd day he did that), I need to keep an eye on him and if he starts getting worse he goes in a shallow tank I got ready for him (back up plan in case he goes on a killing spree, but delaying it cause I had him by himself and he gets really bored and lethargic).
So my experience is mixed right now just because the betta is chasing the rasboras when i turn the light off but he gets lethargic when he is alone.

Bettas are not community fish and shouldn’t be kept as such. The other fish in the tank will stress out the Betta and vise versa.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
I've decided to rehome the Betta.
They seem to be getting on fine but I just don't want the risk of waking up to find a bloodbath or just unhappy behaviour.
I went against my better judgement and bought him.
I'd rather have a happy tank than a daily risk.
My brother will give him a good home.

You could get a small 5-10 gallon tank and keep the Betta in there.

Was hard cause he's a stunner but it's for the best.
Not wanting multiple tanks.
My bro was in the process of setting up a decent little tank 40ltr. At least I'll still get to see him.

They are better than males but can still show aggression. You could try a dwarf or honey gourami maybe?

It can be done, but generally not recommended.

you know how guppies and bettas are not recommended to live together. I have a guppy a tank with a plakat betta right now it depends o the betta's personality

Yea dwarf rainbow ones look cool.

I guess it does, fish can have different personalities/behaviours.

Keep an eye on those fins.
