Betta Problem

GREAT advice athena! im not too "up" on my UK meds as i live in US. both meds youve mentioned ive read a bit about and seem great. i would not use them together. and yes, either go VERY easy on the melafix, or dont use it at all (ive had dire consequences with the stuff and would NEVER sue it again with a betta). i would also suggest retreating for flukes.
keep us posted.
cheers

Thanks for that guys.

Having read everything and done some more research I did a large (90%) waterchange yesterday and refilled with treated water.

Zero improvement. I have not treated with either meds. Fish still does not seem to eat and im worried he is just getting more and more energy drained due to lack of nourishment.

I went home to check o him at lunch time, and i think he is on his way out! :(

This morning he i still alive. Seems to be swimming around a bit more but also still goes to the bottom alot and just sits there.

Decided not to turn the lights on today and see if that help, tank just has ambient room light, I thought maybe bright lights are hurting his eyes.

Still have'nt treated with meds again. Tried to feed him a little BW but he wasnt having any of that!

I think today is day 6 of the Sterazin treatment course, isn't it? Pretty sure you should dose today if you haven't done it yet. The bottle does say "In order to destroy the parasites in all stages of their life cycle you will need to use the product on days 1, 3, 6, 8 and 10".

Of course, your poor betta now has bacterial problems - cloudy eye being one of them - and you can't use the meds for this along with the Sterazin, but it can be helped by regular water changes (but not drastic amounts - just about 15-20% should suffice). In some cases, water changes alone can cure cloudy eye disease.

Yes, leaving the light off for longer periods is a good idea!

Thanks for the reminder Athena, almost forgot about that. Will do so now when I go home along with another small WC tomorrow after work.

Ok, let us know on Monday how he's doing. Don't forget to dose again on Sunday LOL.

Best regards, Athena

So weekend has come and gone, dosed with meds yesterday and today still the same, no improvement or worsening of problem.

Will be doing another small WC tonight.

Today is the last day of Sterazin treatment.

Colour in the fins has returned, however he still has cloudy eyes despite frequent water changes.
Still loss of apetite and not eating. Fins still torn.

Im hoping that after is 48 hour break of meds I will start him on a 5 day Myxazin course that will sort that out.

**Holding thumbs**

So after the weekend and having a break there is NO visible change in this fish. He doesnt swim properly, he hangs vertically in the water or sits on the bottom and seems he is having a struggle swimming!

It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to euthanize him. I dont see him getting better, he still is not eating, so i think its better to put him out of his misery.

Sorry to hear that. It sounds like you've done all you could.
