Hey guys I've had my male Betta for a while now and I've seen him flare at a reflection of himself once. However I cannot seem to get him to flair which I have been told is healthy for a Betta to do?

Any thoughts?

Bettas flare when they feel threatened, that's why they flare at their reflections as they think it's another male in their territory
It stresses them, so really not a healthy thing for them to do a lot.

Yeah I know that but I read somewhere before that it is good Exercise for them

Just leave him be, he doesn't need to flare. He swims around all day, I'm pretty sure that's exercise enough! :good:

i have my males flare for me only when im taking pictures of them to compare how much they have grown with in the last month..but i dont do it for long cus it does stresses them out,
id say just leave it alone like said above it really doesnt give them much exercise i dont think

Ive had a few lazies that wouldnt flare for anything. I wouldnt worry too much about it unless his behavior is otherwise questionable.
cheers
