Betta Compatibility Solved

Very pretty tank setup and a B E A U T I F U L Betta to boot. Nice job.

Aloha guys,
I wanted to add that my long fin Zebra Danios are hyperactive little athletes as well. They are fast and agile little things that I bought a small shoal of 6 of them to to cycle my 30g long... They shoot around at lightning speed changing directions twice in the blink of an eye! Super cool to watch...
I've seen them kept in small tanks and they are extremely hardy little buggers, they can SURVIVE in all kinds of less-than-ideal circumstances (I.e. Small numbers and tiny tanks... I even saw at an LFS a single one living with 2 GIANT Oscars for more than 7 months before he got relocated)

But can imagine them worrying a Betta (who tend to swim SLOWLY as they drag those bed sheets for fins around) I know my little school of Danios were worrying the balloon Mollies I Added to the 30g long tank after it had cycled.

I keep Triops with my Betta to clean the tank bottom. I have also heard they get along well with peaceful bottom dwellers like Kuhli Loaches and Cory cats.

Good luck with yours ;)
cheers

you keep Triops with yours? I wanted to do this but I was not sure. do they get along well? and what do you feed them?

I have been feeding Tetra BetaMin and live Daphnia, Fairy Shrimp, and mosquito larva from a horse water trough.

The triops pretty much ignore the Betta, and he only rarely investigates them. Pity that the Triops are so short lived though... Two good months and you have to start over

Oh thanks for the reply and I don't think I will get them if they don't live very long I would have to take out dead body's every 2 months

Yeah, the "clean up" is a bit sad... Pity they lead such short lives.
The of course you have to clean the tank often enough anyway, but the "dead body" part can be avoided if you start a new batch a week in advance... Triops are canibalistic, so the younger ones would do a good job of "getting rid of the evidence" when one of the older ones passes their expiration date. :)

I look at it as part of routine maintenance... You just accept the limitations of the triops, short lived and simple organisms, that get to lve out their all too breif lives cleaning up after the Betta. Of course I do a lot of live food as well, so it does t bother me too much. There MAY be some other species of
Triops that live longer... But the ones I got from Arizona Fairy Shrimp are quick lived.

hey one more really cool fish easily compatible with betta are black widows. They look good too. I will try to get them but not till my cycle is done. BUt yeah i have a friend who has half a dozen of em and his betta doesn`t even care. You know Betta like many other fish change colours according to their mood. SO he is in Calm mood for sure. Unlike the case i had put those platies and then those lily tetras, he had Gone RED :/
