Best Way To Transfer Mature Media?

My tank is an Aqua 40, live plants, sand substrate.

I voted for 'add some mature ceramic media in bottom of filter' 'cos that's what I'd do, but you could do either of the top two methods.

Just adding ceramic media to the tank wouldn't do you any good. The bacteria cling quite srongly to the media, so it really does need to be put directly into the filter
