Best Test Kit For Amonia

Is there a better test kit for amonia than the API master? I always find it hard to tell between yellow and green 0 or 0.25.

to be honest, i dont think there is. It will probably be hard to tell with any test kit untill they invent a digital one that tells you accurately what the params are!

if you "think" its green, treat it as yellow and then test 12 or 24 hours later, then if it is green it will be even greener

The Salifert ammonia test kit makes the API look like the junk it is. Salifert comes with 2 syringes, a large test container that has 4 flat sides on the bottom for easy viewing, only uses 1 bottle of reagent, results in 3 minutes and the card colors range from white to a burnt orange, no yellow to green confusion.

I use Nutrafin and havent had a problem, i its clear ammonia is 0

The API kit is crap, I'd recommend a Salifert kit, the difference is quite noticeable and you have the added bonus of higher levels of accuracy and more consistent results, you may as well go for all 3: Ammonia, nitrite and nitrate Salifert kits.

You can get digital ones, they do require calibration however with reference liquids and they're very expensive.

Hi ,Marie,i have the same problem ,hold it up to a white background in natural light,if it`s got any hint of green in it i treat it as 0.25,and retest a few hours later to see if it`s gone up to 0.50.
