Best Shoaling Fish For A 125l Community Tank

i havent used anyspecial substrate plain ol gravel. and as for co2.

1 you need a 2 litre pop bottle.( i mean who doesnt have one of these in the green bin?) 1 metre of airline a check valve and a ceramic diffuser. DIY co2 for around a fiver.

2 drill a 6mm hole in the bottle cap and push about 15 cm of airline in so 10cm is sticking out the top. and silicone around it give it 24 - 48 hours to dry and check for leaks.

3.attach an airline check valve to the airline coming out the bottle. then attach the left over air line to the other end of the check valve and attach the ceramic diffuser to the end of this.

4.to produce co2 you need: yeast dry active stuff. water (its about 0.04 p a litre) and sugar

5 fill the bottle to the first line with sugar then top up with luke warm water, so the total level is about 2 thirds of the way up the bottle. then shake for about 30 secs. then add half a teaspoon of dry yeast shake attach cap. place the diffuser in the aquarium with the included suction cup. and in about 30 mins you should see bubbles

where did u buy HC from? cant seem to find it in my LFS?

bought some fine plastic meshing and am going to create a blanket floor with java moss i think? but might be nice to incoporate a bit of HC in it too......

cheers for the CO2 heads up, looks easy, will try it when i have tank up and running!

think im swaying towards two bolivian rams, and 2 shoals of tetra, either glowlights/rummys or harliquins
and then my one BN and maybe 2 shrimps or 4 corys

if you get shrimps make sure you have a group they dont produce any waste( well they do but it is very little ) a group of 6 is a good amount. 4 corys would work

the stocking sounds good. and 2 species of shoaling tetra will look amazing. once you have everything up and running you may want to invest in some underwater led lights. the unit is around £15 and add ons £5 there definatly worth the money, as you may be aware plecs tend to hide during the day and as they cant see red light, you will be able to watch them with these lights.

for introducing the fish get the tetras first then the shrimps and bn plec then the rams. because if you put the rams in first they will claim an area of the tank and any intruders will be bullied. but if they are last to go in all will be ok

red led lights or the blue ones?

have a blue led light unit in my 70l looks very good, i like the unit with three seperate - football floodlight- lights, would you point them up or down?

cheers for the advice on when to put them in,

get my filter in a few days so hopefully have water in it by friday then can maybe add the shrimps the following weeks? not sure on 6 shrimps or 4 corys? maybe both?

already have the BN he is an albino and only 1.5inchs long, wld he be ok to put in straight away?

the rams will always be last-- my centre piece

blue ones should be ok. i find that with blue it looks good to have a few running along the back of the tank pointing up.

yes you could add the shrimps after about 2 weeks. for the bn plec i would leave it about 4 weeks before putting him in as there wont be any algae for him to feed on unless you can use algae wafers. but if find they stick to the glass. plecs that is

yes i guess you could have both(shrimps and corys) if you drop your shoals to 10 each. that way there wont be any chance of an ammonia spike.

i used to have a pair of rams and loved them. just make sure you get a male and female and not both male or there will be fighting

yea, the moss wall and flooring will take me a while to do, with all the weaving. but hopefully it should pay off.....

maybe i will just stick to shrimps and my one BN as clean up crew and then have 2 nice big shoals....

what were you saying about the BN sticking to the glass? is that bad? he currently does that in my 70l one.....

what rams did you have?

does your HC pearl at all? does moss pearl?

yess the java moss is painstakingly boring but it looks good after. BN's should stick to glass as algae is a main part of their die. but algae wafers fall to the substrate and mine rarely come away from the glass.

i had bolivian rams they were beautiful. you could put the BN plec in earlier if you feed him lettuce etc (anything green) i was just about to get you a picture of mine munching on a brussel (glad he likes them) but he swim of :(.

ive only had the HC 2 days so i dont know. and as for java moss im not sure i dont think it does. you would have to ask someone from the plants section

Best Shoaling Fish For A 125l Community Tank: Either if the following Tetras; Neon, Cardinal, Glowlight, Rummynose, Black Neon, Red Eyed, Lemon, Black Widow.

If you want two species then you want about 10-15 of each. Get two that dont look alike that way they will contrast each other.

Eg: 15 Neons and 10 Black Widows

shrimps love foraging in moss and HC.

i wouldnt put any type of neon in a new tank. they need a tank of about 4-6 months old that has low nitrates nitrites and ammonia readings for atleast a few months.( to show your filter is at peak performance)

if you had 2 shoals of 15 the tank would be overstocked with the bn and rams

ok 2 shoals of 12? with rams? and the BN? or reduce to 10?

are shrimps hardy?

Yes should be fine. IMO i would up the number to 15 each. Yes they would be fine with the Rams and Bristlenose. Which Rams are you wanting, Bolivian or German?

really not sure, have only been thinking about them today, bolivian look lovely but dont know much about them?

what do you reckon?

1 BN
4 shrimps
15 - Harliquins
15 - glowlights/lemon
2 Rams - poss bolivian

IMO i would go with Bolivians they are much more forgiving with Water Chemistry. Yep stocking looks ok, you could also get some other type of fish in there too! What are the dimensions of the tank?
