Best Plants For Tank

I'm looking for some plants for the back and front of my aquarium. I'd like some bushier plants for my gouramis to hide in and and some leafy types for near the front. Can anyone suggest some hardy growers and the best methods/tips for planting?

When I kept gourami they liked Java fern, its best tied to bogwood but will spread into substrate too, really easy to grown and tough! It must be its the only plant I have left

The plants you can grow are dependent on your tank. What's the lighting on your tank?

Assuming you have a low-light tank, with no CO2, dosing with a basic fertilizer (like SeaChem Flourish or Nutrafin PlantGro) and using plant tabs (I use Flourish plant tabs), I've had a lot of success with:

-Java Fern (attached to wood/rock... I used superglue, some prefer thread, weights or fishing line)
-Wisteria
-Dwarf Sag
-Frill
-Corkscrew Vals
-Cryptocoryne Spiralis
-Cryptocoryne Wendtii
-Watersprite

Best of luck! Plants take some patience. It took me a while to figure out what would grow well in my tank. For the record, my tank has 0.65 watts of light per gallon.
