Best Media For Filter..

Hello All,

Picking up a Aqua one CF1000 this week and I need some.... is noodle media (says on aqua website it's called that). I looked and it only needs one tray of noodle media so will a box of 500g fluval biomax be ok for this. Will it be enough and is that media any good? I am open to suggestions, and wheres the best place to buy it from? I have all the sponges and will use a bag of fluvals zeo carb too.

Are you buying it new? If so, it will come with all the media it needs. I have one on my 50g.

No I am buying it of mattlee. Just need some noodles and wasn't sure which ones were best.

That is a crazy price for delivery. Will see if there are any decent fish shops in bradford area if I get a chance and look for some otherwise I will look at that on Ebay and ask if I can collect. Is the fluval stuff no good?

i think he is making the money up on the postage on this although its normally anout his price with postage for 1 litre.....
fluval media is fine, i have it in some of my filters. the noodles are normally used first in the bottom basket to swirl the water about a bit causing most of the gunk collected to drop to the bottom of the canister and can be removed when doing maintenance. the external has the bioballs that will do this so you dont need to go for noodle type media unless you want to. it will still harvest loads of bacteria and will do a great job but what you really want are items with greater surface area. those little balls are quite small so the surface area will be greater on a bag of those than a bag of noodles. i have loads of different types of media and to be honest it all works very well and should provide more than enough surface area especially if your running the 2 on the same tank

Thank you, there's just so much choice it's a nightmare! Will check out the local fish shops around here if I finish early tomorrow.

You want to leave out the zeocarb. Any zeolite in a filter is an invitation for a future disaster. If you can get 2 litres of any brand of ceramic media for that price, jump on it. I bought some Seachem Matrix in much the same way and still have some left after the filter I bought it for. That means that any time i want some nice biomedia, I just pull the 2 litre bottle off the shelf and I have all that I need.
