Since swapping my internal filter which housed my heater for an external filter, I have had to put the heater in the tank alone with no guard and of course I think my pleco has burnt himself on it. Anyone recommend a good heater that will guard against the fish getting burnt.

Also I have noticed my danios quickly flick against the heater is this usual behaviour?

Thanks

I've never had any issues with fish burning themselfs on my heater, Only in my older tank.

You can buy heater guards for most heaters on ebay so you could have any heater you want.

Overall you could buy a Hydor inline heater and remove the idea of having a Heater inside the tank :B

i am using the fluval E series heater and find it excellent for temp and a full guard so the fish cant burn themselves on it , also the price is very good

Rena Smart Heaters are brilliant, similar to the Fluval E heaters bit with less factory faults and no irritating flashing green/red/blue disco lights!!

Had to bin 4 E series heaters in one go when not a single one worked.

I always had to have heaters with guards as I had stingrays that liked to 'touch' the heaters, plecs that liked to sit too close and idiot little clown loaches that would wedge themselves behind the heaters!

I used Rena Smart Heaters with the more boisterous fish like the Stingrays and normal glass heaters with the plastic guard on it for the other tanks. Would never have an unguarded heater now.
