Best Fluval Filter?

which is better...?
the fluval PLUS filters (1plus, 2plus, 3plus, 4plus)
or
the U filters (U1,U2,U3,U4)

bearing in mind price, performance, ease of use, availability...

I have a 4+ and the newer U3. The U series has more options available for flow adjustment. The spray bar is particularly good for a nice calm, even flow around the tank. The + series will be cheaper though due to them being older, but both are very good internals.

Get the plus while you still can. I think they are a much better filter with less gimmick and more effect. They have strong flow, effective (resuable) media, and are easy to use. There is so much extra to the U series that there is less room for media and a lower flow.

Much prefer the Plus series to the U range. Far more room for filter media and always found them quieter and more reliable than the U filters.

That said, if you have a planted tank, you may like the spray bar on the U range for gentle flow. If not, go for the Plus - cheaper too

I have a plus 2 and a U4 I know not much comparison, I prefer the different options to the U4, you say there is less space for media, but you only need so much space for the bacteria to breed don't you? But I am not keen in the carbon pad that comes with the U4. I will be changing that shortly

I have a U2 and a 2+ running in my tank.

The 2+ has a much more powerful pump and will pump a lot more bubbles into the tank.

The U2 has a lot more features like 3 different outputs and you can control the strength of the flow.

It really depends on what you're looking for. I prefer the + range
In my main tank as it circulates more. I have the U in my small tank which has
Fry and smaller fish, as I can reduce the flow so the babies don't get sucked up

Just my opinion though
