Iā€™m really interested in aquascaping but Iā€™ve also read a lot of different opinions on what substrate corys need so Iā€™m wondering if thereā€™s something that would work well for my plants AND corys?

Do fertilisers for the plants affect the fish in any way? What fertilisers are best? Do I need to use fertilisers at all?

Good to hear you are interested in aquascaping! It can be really fun and rewarding.

Sand is the best. It's the best for plants, but also Corys require it.
Do fertilisers for the plants affect the fish in any way?
They should not effect your fish, as long as they are dosed properly.
What fertilisers are best?
It all depends on what plants you are going to be keeping. (For example: If you had lots of floating plants or water column plants (plants that get their nutrients from the water, not the soil), then you would need to use liquid fertilizers. If you were keeping crypts or vals, that had big root systems, then root tabs would be the best way to go)
Do I need to use fertilisers at all?
Depends on if you are keeping live plants, what species of plants, and what your lighting is like.
