Bamboo In Tank

I'd like to use bamboo in my tank - just like the canes you get at garden centres

Do I need to do anything to them? One website said to seal in polyurethane?

Yes, coat the outside and inside of the bamboo, and let it dry completely before you put it in. From what I've read. I've never tried this before.
