at a garage near my work there is a vending machine for fishermen to get tubs of magots for bait. this got me wondering that if they are used as bait for fishing and most fishermen employ a catch and release policy then they obviously dont harm the fish and the fish must also like them. so would they be any good as live food for an aquarium?

I would not recommend it, as there could be diseases and stuff among magots.

Well, I wouldn't personally. Firstly I wouldn't imagine them to be the best food nutritionally, lots of water and fat I would guess. Secondly, you don't know what they've been kept on- when I've used them in the past for animal behaviour stuff, they tend to be on cat/dog food which isn't very good for fish and is probably a bit past it's best as well. They smell pretty bad, and you'd take quite a while to use a whole tub, and then if any do pupate you've got flies to deal with too.
