Bacterial Bloom

Hi everyone,
Can a tank go through more than one bacterial bloom ,two days after having tank i had one ,which lasted about four days,and for the last three days i`ve been doing 50 percent water changes because my ammonia was 0.50 ,it`s now 0 .,but the water gone all milky again,help:Have only had tank for three weeks,by the way.

Bacterial blooms can happen for upto 6 months after activating a new filter system. The reason you have probably had another out break is because you have done some pretty big water changes and it is re-establishing itself. The particles in the water that you see are too small for the filter to catch. I used something called filter aid which helped clog the particles in the wter together which enabled the filters media to catch them more effective. No amount of water changes will get rid of the bloom.

When i first set my tank up (before i had found this site) i set my tank up without any cycling and just plonked my fish in... Non of them died but i was probably just very lucky.

I would say (i'm certainly no expert) that as long as you test your water regularly and get the correct readings then you should be fine. I would wait for someone elses opinion though before believing me!

Ammonia spikes can follow bacterial blooms, I would wait until the bloom is over
