IME only one works, only one kinda works. Seachem Stability is good for emergencies, say you medicated a tank and all the filter bacteria is gone. It helps prevent fish lose while the bacteria are coming back. The only one IME that actually works, is Tetra's SafeStart. Its really expensive, but it hasn't let me down and its really reliable

To put it one word, 'no'. To expand on that, it's no substitute for carrying out a proper cycle. Some say that they are can be an aid while doing a fishless cycle and can speed it along - I tihnk the jury's out on that one though.

I used tetra safestart in my fishless cycle. It still took over 2 weeks before my ammonia started to drop. I think this stuff is very dependent on how it is stored for it to work.

Also noticed in the LFS some of the bottles were out of date. Not a good sign. Especially as its quite expensive.

If you can, get some mature filter media. If not just a bottle of ammonia and patience.

So does safestart just help with the cycle or does it complete the cycle

This a tricky one as info floating about is not 100% accurate. Yes is does work is the short answer, however there lots and lots of off the shelf's ones in the UK that do nothing. You will prob not find the few that work in the uk at all? but i know over the pond there are proven ones
