Hey peeps

I havent been on for a long long while and during this time due to financial and health problems had to move on all my beloved fishies. My health is now back on track as well as financial and what with getting married 3 weeks ago, feel it is time for me to get one small tank, something in the 5-10 gallon region, something that is manageable for me and this time there will and cannot be multi tank syndrome. I will also be sticking to fairly simple fish and not the beloved puffers just to make it easier for myself and better lifestyle for fish in question.

Modifying this post already as spent entire afternoon researching..I am thinking of sticking to the fluval chi. Having read posts on here and reviews it seems to work for bettas as long as cautious (will be getting the built lid). What would be best when considering an betta splendens the 19litre or 25 litre? My impression was the more water allowance the better since more forgiving and space etc? Or does the added height not matter that much in this situation???

Still open to reviews on the chi ingeneral :) Also suggestions that would fit a mini tank though very much miss my Calcifer and would like to go this route again unless there are micro species that I have not considered?

With the basic chi packages, aware need to buy the additional lid for the type of fish buying. I dont think it comes with a heater, can anyone recommend a good one for this type of tank??

In terms of betta splenden if to go down that route for a UKer anyone guide me to a good source? Preferably crowntail or more unusual. Have seen Bettas UK which seems pretty good?

Lastly, once all the research is done, would do this one all furniture has been moved and everything settled, the tank would be last thing in to be cycled. As not been around a while, is there still source to gain cycled material to kick start and clone? If anyone near Bournemouth area could help a lass out be appreciated :)

Sorry for the long post and thanks for any help x

I'd honestly get a standard 10 gallon aquarium. It'll give you much more freedom in terms of stocking, accessories (such as heaters, filters, lights, lids, etc) not to mention more room for the fish. Even bettas love to move around.

What I've found about designer tanks like fluval chi, edge, bio orb, etc is that though the frame looks pretty, you really can't do anything with the interior. Sometimes they even take parts that need to be specially ordered if they break down. Sometimes you can only use the substrate and decorations built for the model. And on top of that, the dimensions are built in mind for the person, not the fish who will live in them. Regardless of what kind of fish it is, the width and length matter more than the height. Especially in tanks with small volume like the chi.

If you're still convinced you want a 100 dollar tank thats less convenient than a 50 dollar set up that costs less, get the biggest model available. Ime, although bettas can live in small spaces, they are much more happy and active in bigger setups. My betta won't even slow down for a picture.

Hiya I will reconsider again though will say being UK $50 new sets just dont happen over here sadly :( Luckily I have spare cash but will have to look into more if considering anything larger and 10g would definitely have to be a limit. I have had a fair few bettas in my time some liked the space and some didnt so I guess it will be a gamble

Tbh although the chi is a lovely looking tank, it is over priced.
For me it's a tall tank, & although some people have bettas living quite happily in them, I'd go for a more traditional shaped tank.
P@H have some 25 litre cubes at a good price if you really want something small, & they come with lids & filter
Some Lfs now are getting in different types of bettas rather than just the veiltails.
If you're in the Uk try maidenhead aquatics if you have one near you

ah I forget about Maidenhead...none real local but if can beg a trip of someone must make it there. Thanks for the input peeps. I will be honest the betta will be on its own even if room for other occupants, have tried various combinations some successful and others not but this time would really be just for the betta.

Definitely open to suggestions of tanks though am keeping style in mind though dont mind paying bit more to have space and style. Now dont yell at this suggestion (as honestly I am not sure if these are good or not though width not great?) Hopefully can post linky (sorry been gone a while and cant remember?)

Looks nice, but very narrow & for the money not worth it imo

thank you I shall continue my search. Due to health problems in the past and my MTS got very much out of hand, it is also the problem convincing my partner on the style and size also (being the sensible one). I shall continue to look and perhaps leave it for a while to review more tanks etc :)

Lilacamy, what are you doing back here as a 3 weeks newlywed? Don't you have better things to do? :hey: Nonetheless, welcome back. Sorry that I can't help you with UK sources but that is a far distance for me across the pond here.

Hello you! How has life been? :) 3 week newly wed? You mean a joint fish tank then XD I suppose that is the next step ;) Thanks all the same really good to see all the friendly faces are still here :)
