Hi, heygetsmart.
I remember your beautiful bettas from pics seen before, but it's nice to see them again.
I hppened to notice you referred to turning a filter back on, and I was just wondering if you knew that beneficial bacteria tend to die rapidly in filters which haven't been running for whatever reason, and that toxins can form which will be spewed out when it is?
I don't know how long it may have been off for, and the types and extent of toxins can be highly variable, but I thought I'd just mention in case a problem might be in the offing.
It's the sort of thing I'd like to know to watch out for, anyway.

Thanks syphoniera!

I ended up taking out the filter. and just got a regular sponge filter for the fry.
And my dad told me the same thing this morning. but he never told me what to do.
What do you suggest I do with the filter?

Personally, I'm a paranoid - since the beneficial bacteria's gone anyway, I'd chuck the media, sterilize the filter in bleach solution, rinse the heck out of it umpteen times, soak in in dechlor, and, if likely to need it in future, see if you can put in fresh media and run it in another tank so it's cycled and ready when you are, to set up another tank.
