I am going away for a week from friday, but there will be no-one reliable to feed my fish (1 Guppy, 3 Amano Shrimp, 7 Cherry shrimp, 7-10 baby cherry shrimp!).

Any advice on what I can get to feed them? Limited on funds so automatic feeders are out?

I dont think auto feeders are very expensive but without one of those, errrm, well as your tank is mainly made up of shrimp it shouldnt need a large amount of feeding to get by, if you could just get a friend/family member to pop in twice and add a pinch of food?

Just feed them normally the day you leave and don't worry. They can easily go a week without food. I have done this on at least 2 occasions without any problems. You run more of a risk of having issues because the filter or heater malfunction (power failure for instance) than you do with lack of food. And even in the case of a filter issue, the lack of food means waste will be minimal anyway meaning that the ammonia level won't get very high before you return.

Auto feeders malfunction way too often unless you an get it and run it for a month in adance just to calibrate how much it puts in and make sure it works properly They usually end up not putting any food in the tank or dumping the who lot in at once. Neither is good. And the feeding blocks ar mostly fillers and the plaster junk that holds them together, very little food. With those you will ccome back to a very cloudy and messy tank and still have hungry fish.

The one potential problem would be with the baby shrimmp. I'm not certain what their needs are and how long they can go without food. The others will be fine.

Hi, as suggested a week is fine without food. They might clean up the tank!

Think about getting your guppy some friends when you return. As with just about all small fish, they feel happier in a shoal :good:
