Long time ago. Before my great grandmothers passing. She kept some really nice fish. One of them that was my favs was a...well i assumed if it was a cat but she said it was a shark. I never did find out but here is as detailed a description i can give of the lil guy before his...timely passing to the hands of a inexperienced keeper when she sold the fish.

Basic description
Coloration included silver body with black lateral stripes
Large eyes
White Underbelly
Was a mid to bottom dweller
Was very docile around other fish
was always skiddish and easily frightened by people by the tank.
managed to live like 16 years (don't even ask me how....)

here is a rough but...crappy drawing i made based off my memory of the fish.

One friend of mine suggested it could have been some kind of Syno. But i want to be sure. It was such a beautiful fish! Any ideas or definitive answers would be greatly appreciated!

With you saying lateral stripes, could it have been a Raphael Catfish?

That would fit with the skittish nature as well as they are mainly nocturnal.

well this is interesting. I may have found it. this is what i found and its a near match!

You are probably looking for a Pangasius catfish and you DEFINATELY dont want one of those.

Baby Pangasius (the fact that its shiney hides its stripes in photo)

Adult Pangasius (gives you an idea of how colours change and how big they get)

Pretty sure your description best fits Pangasius Sutchi...

+1, Columbian Shark sprang to my mind too, a fish that needs increasingly salty water as it matures, eventually needing marine conditions.

I think it was a columbian aswell. However my great grandmother wasn't a true enthusiast, so she didn't meet its tank requirements. The poor thing lived its 16 years in a 30 gallon tank with 1 pleco, and 14yo goldfish. There were others but didn't last very long.

Anyway thank you guys.
