Arghhhhh Ammonia Back With A Vengeance

Yeah, that would work fine. I've heard lots of people complain about the smell when using shrimp though. I found that squid doesn't really smell at all. :good:

Maybe i just had a cold that week. LOL!

I was going to suggest Homebase, but you got that covered!LOL! Funny that boots dont have any isnt it! If anywhere should have it they should! Thats just pants! Good luck on your hunt for ammonia, keep us posted! GRJ :good: Oh, just as a final afterthought, if yu have room in one of your filters, keep as much spare media as you can and then you always got spare if needed or disaster strikes again! Thats what i do know and i managed to set another two tanks up with no cycling trouble at all! GRJ

Good idea

Cheers

Zoe

GRJ...thanks!! i have been thinking about doing that but haven't gotten around to asking if it's a good idea yet.

that sucks that you're having problems scotslasszoe. i really hope everything works out when the smoke clears

If you ask at the store for "pure ammonia" it's unlikely they will know what you are talking about and will most likely tell you they don't have it. Just look on the cleaning aisle where bleach and other cleaning products are located. It is certain that they will have some type of ammonia as that is a universal cleaner. It's just a matter of whether it has detergents or other nasties in it or not.

If i can help, i always will and its nice to pass on good advice! I was given plenty of good advice when i started out and so i fee it only fair to pass it on. GRJ :good:

Fish food is much more difficult to cycle with because there is no way to regulate how high you are raising the ammonia. It first has to be broken down to produce ammonia and from that point on, you will always have ammonia in your tank. You can't let it drop back to zero because it would take too long for more ammonia to be produced and the bacteria already developed would die off.
