Parrots are completely different to "blood parrots". For true parrot, search for Hoplarchus psittacus (which yours are not).

The orange coloured, fancy hybrid which you have does come in many different colours ranging from off white to red, with many shades of yellow and orange in between.

Thank you for that Kitty Kat. Was not sure but does help to know. :)

Here's some pictures with my Blood Parrot in them for reference:

Mind you, she used to not always be such a brilliant orange, she used to change colors from a soft peachy/yellow and all shades of orange in between.
It seems as she's matured more though, or from her being in a larger tank with better water parameters, her color has been this steady bright orange.

She's cute why are mine not like that lol mine try to bite my other half lol

Haha, some parrots just look different than others. which does make sense because they are a hybrid fish  and you mean they go after/chase the others?
They will do that! When I had 2 of them, a male and a female, they chased each other around and kicked each other out of the cave that they both liked to hide in, but it wasn't serious aggression.
They were a pair and laid eggs together all the time.

My uncle also has 4 of these guys and they all hassle each other all the time, it's quite humorous actually.

Post some pictures of yours perhaps? :good:

do you have any problems with your servrums? Mine seem very spiteful is the only way i can put it. My parrots are forever chasing each other  got used to them doing that. Do you know anything about oscar's? i will try and get you some pic's tonight when i get home from work. :) :D

My severum has a mild temperament for the most part, but yes he can seem spiteful also
He sometimes chases and takes a nip at my blood parrot (never does any damage whatsoever, though)
he doesn't seem serious as in trying to hurt her, and she completely ignores him when he does this anyways, it's quite funny.

The only time he gets a little more aggressive towards the BP is during feeding time, but once again he may just frantically chase her away from a piece of food,
never does any harm, and she just comes right back haha.

Other than that, they stay peaceful together.
Severum's temperaments are all different also, some are big softy's and very peaceful and calm, while others can be a bit territorial and want to be dominant.

And from what I know about oscars,
they can top out at about a foot long, they grow very quickly especially if you feed them live food such as little feeder fish.
One oscar needs AT LEAST a 55 gallon, but then he should only be kept by himself.

Oscars are big waste producers. I'd recommend a 75 gallon at least or larger if you want to house an oscar and other fish.

My dad had a tank that was stocked with nothing but oscars.
They are more on the aggressive side. Well actually, let me not say aggresive, but territorial, and are only recommended with certain other species.
As long as you have a large enough tank for the Oscar to claim his little territory, and ample room for the other fish to swim around, you
should be fine.

They come in different colors but some are more rare than others.
Tiger is the most popular and common color which is the black/grey body and orange markings, Solid black, Albino or albino tiger, Zebra, and Red oscars.

They usually are more tolerant of their tank mates when they are younger, but as they mature, they sometimes get more territorial.. yet, sometimes
if they "grow up" with certain fish, they will be connected with those fish and will get along just fine. I've even heard of Oscars sulking and sad
if an old tank mate was removed from the tank or died.

They really intelligent fish and learn to recognize their owners and even do tricks for food.

Usually the type of tank mates that are kept with oscars are synodontis catfish, severums, chocolate cichlids,
blue acaras, Jack Dempseys, green terrors, convicts, texas cichlids, and sometimes firemouths.

Or some larger schooling fish such as silver dollars, bala sharks, tinfoil barbs, etc..

If you're thinking about putting an oscar in with your Blood Parrots, you might want to be careful. I've heard of BP's and oscars getting along okay sometimes,
but I was recommended against it by people on this website when I had the chance to get an albino tiger oscar. Since you have more than one BP you could
be okay, but I would keep an extremely watchful eye.

Never put anything in the tank that can fit in the oscars mouth, that's the rule of thumb. and they have pretty large mouths.
