My baby synos are gowing and Poirot, who is now 6in including tail, has started chasing cichlids, just for fun nothing nasty and no biting. Worried he may attack and kill my cons and jewels as he gets bigger though or bully my L001 plec. I understand synos grow to at least 8in.Are they aggressive potential killers?

i wouldnt call them killers but if needed they can stand up for themselves. i have 4 in my african cichlid tank and they havent killed anyone. now if the out fish with fit it its mouth it may become a meal, but they dont really randomly attack.

Thanks for the reassurance.
So my jewels and cons should be safe then -too big to swallow! Not sure what species mine are but they are grey with black spots and have ragged dorsal fins with a long protruding spine. Are syno carnivorous? I thought they had sucker mouths like plecs and have been feeding them catfish pellets. They have grown much bigger and are very active all day so I guess they are getting enough food. Should I feed them meaty food like dried shrimp and dried small fish? Have some dried fish & shrimp in stock for my turtles

mine love baby crawfish. and the occasional worm(gotta chop it up a bit though  )

I have an organic wormery with a constant supply of fresh worms. I'll try one -cichlids should like it too!

thats cool. i just dig mine out of the ground. my cichlids were afraid if the worm at first them my big kenyi attacked and started a feeding frienzy.

nope no sucker mouth. they might munch on algae wafers from time to time but they'll usually eat any sort of food that makes it the bottom. any kind of catfish pellet will work.

Nah dont be worried at all.
I had 2 large synontis and 4 small in a community tank with various fish over the months including tiger barbs and kribensis chiclids and NEVER had any problems with them.

Just told my two larger synos as theyd grown to 8 inches and thought theyd like a larger tank!
Still got two with bristlenose and kribensis and they are fine

Seriously.... if anybody tells you they are agressive then ignore them because someone on here tried telling me a humbug catfish kills other fish and mines as placid as a chihuaha!
