I have these pebbles which I got from the beach, my tank is a freshwater tropical tank, I am aware if I can add any I will have to boil them to clean them of any nasties......so far all I know is I can have quartz in my tank, but unsure about anything else....oh and that shells for freshwater are a no-no.

So do these look like anything I could have in my tank??

beach pebbles

can't remember what it mean to honest but it will effect your ph leavels. acid's and alkiline if it fizzes it's and alkline rock I.E lime stone or marble. but you will need to be sure that will not affect your water or it could bugger your hole tank?

Ah I get ya!!!

Anyone else know anymore?

is it best to boil all pebbles first then test with vinegar......thinking incase there is anything on them that reacts but only cos it's on the pebble before it begins

cool.....my tank is undergoing hardcore illness treatment at the moment, but when it's recovered *fingers crossed*...I shall be out testing those pebbles....and if any work I may go beach combing for other possible candidates....it would be nice to have some larger ones for my plec to graze the algae off of :)

what's going on with your tank then? don't sound good?
columnaris....it's a pain in the butt....big time!
I've been treating it for nearly 2 months now, it hasn't really gotten any worse it just wouldn't budge.
From Wilders fantastic help I think I am finally getting through to it *touch wood*.....with oxytetracycline which I added yesterday, but already big improvement to the lump on my danios lip :)

As a side effect it's given my betta fin rot on and off over the past few weeks and the danio females....my danio male seems to be hardcore and hasn't gotten anything through this ordeal...which I think all came from a pitbull pleco I bought just 2 days before things started to go wrong......*sigh*.....won't be buying anymore fish from maidenhead aquatics that's for sure!
The rest of my fish had all come from another LFS which I trust fully for healthy fish....but they didn't do pitbulls.

Anyway...yeah....it's been stressing me out a great deal, so hopefully this will be it now, I have neon tetra to return to LFS when the ordeal is over....as they have become fin nippers to my betta, so I will replace them with harlequin rasboras over time :) :good:

never herd of a neon nipping before? got harlequin and they seem fine as did my neons? how many have toy got?

lets hope that's goes well :good:

people had warned me, but unfortunately after I already had them, and because they were so tiny they didn't start doing it for ages, but because of the columnaris when they do it, it sets off finrot on the betta, so they are kept away.
There are 5 of them....how many rasboras do you think I should get? Replace them with 5.....or get 6? I was probably gonna get 6

fizzing bad yeah, mean it's an akline stone will mess with ph leavels. harlequin like a group like neons 5-6 is good. how are the neon's with columnaris? it might just be that they are pecking at the other's as a result of this, weaker fish and all?
