Arcadia Arc 60 Litre Diary

With this tank I will be using the following equipment;

Arc 60l Tank
APS 1000 External Filter (inc; Eihem Substrate Pro, Seachem Purigen)
I have packed the filter with mature media and sponges and put enough in to slow the flow rate down so its not to much for this small tank.
Hydor 200w External Heater
24W Arcadia Plant Pro Compact Light

Caribsea Eco Complete Substrate, (I have read some good reviews on this so hopefully it will work out for me)

A lot of work to do plant wise yet, the main issue is that I cant get hold of the plants that I want without ordering them online and waiting. So I decided to go to my LFS and grab some random basic plants to go in the tank for now. I have tried to make a cave with the stones on the left but it hasnt realy worked so I may have to chuck a coconut cave in for the time being once the fish arrive.

Fish will be added on Sunday once I have added plants; I have sourced the fish from a local breeder and he claims they are wild caught from Brazil.

Yet to decide what to have in the tank decor wise, stone or bogwood! I will have a couple of coconut caves but would prefer to make some sort of slate cave that is buried in the substrate. Will try and sort this out tomorrow and will also add images.

Also I am going to have to get the glass lid cut slightly tomorrow because the external pipe fittings will mean the glass lid will not fit at the moment but this will be sorted tomorrow.

Plantwise I would like to use a plant to create a carpet, Undecided on what plants to use yet.

PICTURES WILL BE ADDED TOMORROW SO WATCH THIS SPACE :good:

lol, well the seller also claims they are a proven pair of wild caught fish so fingers crossed.

I wouldnt know the difference if they were wild caught anyway

Some pictures of the tank with some temporary plants till I can purchase the plants I want.

It turns out that the glass lid was toughened glass so I couldnt get that cut  luckily (the father-in-law) got me a new lid cut from a new piece of glass and it fits a dream :)

More pics to come tomorrow when the fish are added, I am debating adding a small group of a type of Rasbora but am unsure if this would work with the Agassizii. I will have to do some reasearch and decide in the near future.

Nice little set up mate.Love how the gravel compliments the rocks
good.gif

I've been toying with idea of Apisto's in with my Neon Green Ras' , but can't make my mind up as i've never kept any before.
My only reservation would be if they spawn like Ian got his to do.Sounds like his tank took a pounding.According to this Agassizii could get a bit fiesty.
Don't know how relevant that write up is? Maybe start a thread on the New World forum.
good luck

Thanks, I did notice the thread where Ian had the issues with his Agassizii tearing some Neons apart  I will have a good chat with the breeder tomorrow and see what he thinks.

One thing I am worried about is the lack of plants, dont want to run into algea problems all beit using a plant substrate also this tank is in the back room which gets quite a bit of light througout the day!

Do you think it would be a good ideal to get a load of stem plants in the tank temporarily to up the mass intill I get hold of the plants I want?

Ian had Cacatuoides not Agassizii. ;)

Plant, plants and more plants. :D Something with contrasting foliage. And you're gonna need loads of caves for them. :good:

Hi Minnnt,

Plan is to get loads of plants in there in the next week, when you say loads of caves wont 2 be enough?

And do you fancy recommending any plants? Otherwise I will more than likley end up with a bit of everything again! Lol

A bit of everything worked for you last time. ;) :good: You know what plants i will recommend, lol. Crypts, Crypts and more Crypts.

Give them the option of a few caves, you will be able to cover the majority of them up with your plants anyway. Are you going for a tannin stained look or not?

True and I still love the jungle look on any tank.

If only I could get hold of some Cryptocoryne Balansae I would add a load to the tank, also I put a load of fresh Purigen in the filter so no tannins in this tank. Just put a coconut cave in the tank.

If it were me, get some Frogbit in there & maybe look at some of the smaller Echindorus that are around now, just to create a few shady areas.
But that's just me.

i know, but is there a difference in behaviour ?

What about adding some Brazilian pennywort? Is a nice and easy plant and comes from the same country as your fish :good:.

I actually like the rock/cave work on the left. You said it didn't work as a cave for you? It looks fine to me, or is it too small?

They recommend to keep this cichlid with pencilfish. Especially wild types should have dimmed light and shady areas so it would be good to get some salvinia.
