Aquis 500

i have aquired a aquis 500 by aqua one it was second hand but all filter media was there, anyway there was no instructions so i kinda guessed at how it works, so connected it to my tank trying to use my existing filter as a doner, anyway i ensured taps were on and powered it up, big rattles and no water coming out , so i see the primer cap on the top and decide to turn it anti clockwise lots of air stars coming out followed by lots of water , in blind panic i tighten it up and CRACK , so i turn it off now the primer cap just spins around, i turned it to the original position and turned it back on and NO LEAKS and filter working , not really sure why its not leaking but i need proper instructions on how to fill it (prime it) and where i can get parts if at all and or do i need that part or can i just seal it shut? a little concerned its gonna start leaking when im not here and empty my tank of water anybody help pls

The air coming out was good. The point of the primer is to get all the air out.

thanks but still need to know if i can prime it another way because i dont trust the primer cap now so would prefer to just seal it shut because until i risk taking it apart again dont know if its the cap or the locating lugs on the head that have broke
